Imagine one just going about their Red Dead Online business and some fellas are seen throwing punches, and the thought comes into one’s mind… should this be interfered with? Yes, don’t do that. This is what one player learned the hard way in a clip that has since gone viral, and honestly, it has been one of the funniest things I’ve seen all week.
The video, from the source of the original poster, u/WisdomOfTheStar, shows this cowboy casually walking into the middle of a fistfight as if to mediate some peace talks or something. Instead of being thanked for this service, the two fellas ceased fighting between themselves and started to beat up this poor fellow. Maybe there was an unspoken rule in their world whereby haunting anyone who disrupted a fight was an untouchable law. And about the combat system in Red Dead? I could kiss the chef! The punches look so real and so full of impact that you almost feel the forming bruises.
The comments people were hilarious. One player said, “That’s what happens when you try to be a peacemaker in the wild west. Should’ve minded your own business,” which, in my opinion, is just the greatest truth ever told. Another person stated that “it looks so staged but still funny,” which, in my opinion, maybe it was? But some of the best moments in online games are the fluke moments that just happen on a whim.
There were quite a few excellent comparisons as well. One person said it reminded him of the apartment fight scene from Ted, which admittedly made me realize I need to think about for a while. Another person said, “They had him like,” accompanied by a GIF of someone getting destroyed; the energy was just right. One of my favorite comments was “Jumping in like ‘I got this!’… then instantly regret hits. Red Dead Online: teaching humility one tag-team at a time.” The literal description of what went down.
What’s strange is how many other people said they’d had a similar experience. “I remember a similar thing happened with me and my gf we just accidentally clobbered some random player who was walking,” like… how do you accidentally clobber someone? Basically, that is so Red Dead Online. The chaos is just an added layer of charm. Another player said, “used to host fight clubs back in the hay day,” which sounds seriously cool. Just a bunch of shirtless cowboys throwing hands out there. I really hope that people still do this.
It was bound to spawn a few replies from those who really had no clue what the game was about. Some dude even asked, “What’s the name of this game,” which… bro, it’s in the title? But it’s kind of cool with new folks discovering Red Dead Online because of clips like these. Even though this game has been around for years, it is yet to stay short of creating viral moments.
The best part, though? After beating up the random guy, the two original fighters apparently just stopped fighting each other. Like they had some kind of mutual understanding through violence. One comment read, “Nah they stopped fighting after 😭😭😭😭,” which honestly is the real way this would go down. Nothing brings people together quite like gang-banging a third party. It’s like that awkward moment in every action movie when rivals decide to team up against a much bigger common enemy.
This just proves how this whole incident keeps Red Dead Online so vocal despite all of its flaws and absence of updates from Rockstar. Sometimes you’re not even playing for the missions or grind – it’s for these random instances that’ll never be scripted, and couldn’t be found elsewhere. Where else can a random second-who-knows-how become-best-friends-in-crime-hurt-a-poor-soul-who-thought-he-was-gonna-play-sheriff?
Side note – Someone said they were “listening to a deadmau5 song while watching this, and of all things it fit rather well,” so now I really want to see an edit of some EDM heavy bass with cowboy fights. Would be fantastic.
Really, the clip just reminds us once again that, sometimes, it’s best just to let the fights play out. Unless you really want to be the star of the show. Hence, it’s yet again the wild-west simulator where anything and everything can, and does, happen. To that, I say, we wouldn’t want it any other way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be heading back into the game to find my own spontaneous fight club. Maybe I’ll even break one up. What could possibly go wrong?
