So this is one of those serious PS6 leaks that hit the Internet, and if even half of it is true, there is a strong possibility of it turning into a beast of a machine. According to MLID (Moore’s Law Is Dead), the PS6 may have serious heat in early 2027 unless the company decides to shelve it herself at the last minute or do a last-minute change-Now, let’s be honest; she most probably will.
Leads the whole pack of specs. The leak also mentioned that PS6 might be going with a chiplet arrangement, which is AMD’s way to speed and make things more efficient rather than just pure power; so, also, it should be backwards compatible for PS4 and PS5 games, which should be a very good celebration for those who have been pouring money into digital games.
Under the hood lies an 8-core Zen 6 CPU (because Zen 5 isn’t out yet-and here we are talking about Zen 6??) and around 40 to 48 CUs of RDNA 5 GPU architecture-not mentioning a GPU frequency greater than 3 GHz, which is…madness. To give a relative perspective, the PS5 GPU, at best, reaches only 2.23GHz.
As far as memory goes, the PS6 might use GDDR7 with 32GT/s transfer speed, coupled with either a 160-bit or 192-bit bus. This is for sure an argument where some gamers claim that the 192-bit bus is too small for 4K gaming, whereas the other side counters with AI upscaling nullifying the argument on its relevancy. However, as per the data available, it is said that with reservoir PS6 at least three times the raster performance uplift would come from the PS5, which is indeed huge.
So the reactions do come-the fun part. Gamers themselves are split on this. Some are giddy. Some are skeptical. Others have even started complaining that it is now just about to hit the stride of PS5 (Yeah, looking at you, @Superweapon23). While we have @losermike out and about complaining about how it will be bad to announce RDNA 5 for PS6 instead of RDNA 6 since the former will be old as dirt at launch compared to PC hardware.
Back to retro compatibility. Literally, @Dark_012Agent wondered why Sony cannot make PS6 play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, which I mean, fair enough. Sony has been weirdly inconsistent about legacy support, so some days I don’t even know if they would real want to commit to it.
And hey, @OuiMau had to squeeze in the obligatory “Switch 2 more powerful” comment. Classic.
If only any of this was confirmed! @Zuby_Tech rightly retorts that those specs might probably be outdated anyway since the PS6 is still a few years away. Yeah, that’s probably true-it’s faster for technology to change, and Sony is not going to lock in final hardware this early. But still, fun to speculate.
One thing for sure: the PS6 is coming out in 2027; it sure shall be something wild. The PS5 Pro is not even out yet, and its successor is already in the air. Time has flown by while awaiting the next next big thing.
Well, what are your views? The PS6 gets you here, or are you still holding onto the freedom from 2013? Either way, sit tight because the console war is far away.
(And fam, @iTzNikeBro, we know you’re still upset about the bus size. Chill.)
