Firstly, Blizzard issues a hotfix to Overwatch and the community has a mixed reaction “finally” and “what about this other issue”. The PlayOverwatch tweet announced the reintroduction of Wrecking Ball after being disabled, which is great news for the hamster ball players. Now that the Hazard’s infinite block glitch is fixed, as well as the ability to proper use the Mic Drop Emote, players are able to focus on the game again.
Browsing through the comments, the real issue surfaced. Overwatch’s community is facing rage and filth not due to the hotfix. There is a lot more that Overwatch is ignoring.
To begin: everything regarding Wrecking Ball. Yes, a section of the community is glad that he is back. Earlier nobody appreciated the opinions of players like yuzu who clearly stated her dislike with “No no take this one back keep ball out of the game for a few seasons”. Separately, Coveniess expressed her reaction with a crying emoji gif saying “Wrecking Ball reenabled” which is basically the epitome of people’s mixed feelings. The reaction to Crazymode hamster ball is either love or hate, there is no in-between.
This would have been an issue in itself, but there is an even bigger issue almost 80% of the replies are directed at, which is the new draft system in stadium mode. Players are extremely frustrated about it, and Girly is not the only one. In a very on-point summary of her opinion, Daniel made a statement that 80% of people are complaining about the drafts removal and he was begging for a hotfix to remove it, which is exactly in line with the rest of the comments. And it isn’t just Daniel and Girly, everyone is either shouting their opinion or quietly seething with it.
In every single reply, it seems like there’s a list of other issues. BCG1997 wants Orisa’s spear wall splat bug fixed immediately. Punished “Venom” Gorejira has been calling for a Roadhog revert. Xytmaerr is upset about the cost of the Summer Wuyang skin. Ben pointed out that comp queue, no sprays, and no voice line placement as Baptiste, are still not fixed. SPEEclY wonders if a new/old bug is back with a facepalm emoji. Eyad Moataz was commenting that the PS4 version is repeatedly glitching with connection issues and bugs.
There is some strange multi-game commentary with HPhoenix and jlmiah in Dead by Daylight and GTSonice telling Overwatch to leave the page and go to @MarvelRivals instead.
The hotfix addressed the issues with unlocking an emote, fixing a glitch, and bringing back a hero. The burning concerns and frustration of the players however far outweigh the recently addressed issues, which might have been the tip of the iceberg. Along with the changes to the game modes, the everlasting bugs, the pricing of cosmetics, and the stability of the game, in general, are also being complained about. There are far more urgent issues aside from the small fix the hotfix attempted to address.
The Overwatch team actually seems to be listening, as they completed the fixes they said they would address. The question is, though, are they listening to the avalanche of feedback regarding the Stadium draft system in addition to the other issues that have been a problem for a long time? At this point, nobody knows. In the meantime, enjoy your Mic Drop emote, and hopefully your draft pick doesn’t frustrate you too much, I guess.
