Overwatch’s very own Twitter account had, in a way, a small premiere yesterday where it indeed talked about duos, drama, and betrayal, and whether in the end, you would really forgive said duo for not pocketing you anymore. The replies, well, they’ve gone insane. So, this very simple question really opened up an entire can of worms about Overwatch 2 and about some player frustrations.

The original tweet shows what looks like an Ashe being left to die after being pocketed by Mercy, captioned: “The drama. The intrigue. The betrayal 🫣 Would you forgive your duo if they stopped pocketing you? ❤️🩹” And honestly? The replies are way stronger than would be expected for what really was supposed to be a lighthearted question.

Another player commented, “No I would not forgive her,” and I mean, yeah, same here. When you are relying on the damage boost and suddenly you are left out to dry? It stings. But then it continues: “Your game is trash. You guys ruined it beyond belief and the players make it worse.” Ouch. This isn’t about pocketing anymore; there’s some deep resentment about the game itself.

The Mercy pocketing arguments are, in reality, a lot more complex than they appear. Some say that pocketing has ruined Mercy’s existence. “Pocketing ruined Mercy, THE main healer reduced to being a right-click bot is pretty wild,” which, like, makes sense when you think about it. Mercy was meant for triage and game sense; now she’s mostly trudging behind one DPS.

Another would then answer differently: “Extremely wrong, if ur not pocketing ur dps u are throwing pick a different character if you want to heal.” So clearly, there’s some divide on how people interpret Mercy’s role. Some believe she should damage boost key targets, while others believe she should be more flexible.

What was I saying? Right, the pocket drama. It’s not just Mercy; players are bringing up all kinds of different problems on the surface. One player claimed, “Fix stadium matchmaking and remove the draft, it took y’all only three seasons to ruin the mode lol,” showing that frustration is widely spread throughout the game.

Symmetra also keeps getting brought up in the replies. She was apparently disabled because her photon barrier was indestructible, and her secondary fire did zero damage? Uh… broken, actually. One player explained, “Why they disabled Symmetra is because her Photon Barrier was completely indestructible, and her secondary fire did no damage at all.” Imagine having an unbreakable shield-in-a-game-where-you-break-shields. That’s just messy.

This whole conversation goes back and forth between the pocket drama and other dilemmas in the game, kind of letting everybody know what the community is thinking about. They are using this pocket question as a starting point to bring up all the other bad stuff. Someone even pleaded, “Please bring back ow1 locked skins 😔😭,” so yeah, cover all topics.

There is a peculiar amount of personal digression occurring about that one pocket question. One comment read, “I tell them to tell me when they’re leaving me. Thinking you can rely on someone, and then they’re just gone, sucks.” Real relationship energy. Overwatch duos in full-blown trust issues and all that.

It just makes one wonder what the state of the Overwatch 2 community actually is. Are all the players this tense all the time? Players appear that they’re looking out for any excuse to pour out their hearts between balance, bugs, matchmaking grievances, and pocket drama.

The question goes back to the original one – would you forgive your duo? Some of the answers get right down to it, like “Step 1. wait for the game to end, leave the group, find another mercy pocket 🤣,” which, really, is the healthiest approach. No point crying over spilled heals.

This whole pocket argument just reaffirms the point about how differently some interpret the support role. Some Mercys just want that all-damage-boost life; others want to get groovy. One player said, “Left click bot isn’t better either. Chained puppy is just a wrong playstyle by bad players. Gotta zoom around, help everyone live/ get kills, annoy the enemies with your moves and kill some backline here and there.” There’s definitely an argument about skill expression happening here.

In short, that Twitter thread shows just how passionate Overwatch players really are. Maybe in some places, too much passion. From pocketing strategies to hero balance to game modes, the game is littered with opposing views. And really, that’s the lifeblood of the game-that people care enough to engage themselves in these discussions. Even if they’re arguing over whether an abandoned Mercy pocket is grounds for terminating a friendship.

Would I forgive my duo? I probably would. But I would probably throw some shade at them for a few games before going solo tank out of fear of possibly having to rely on anyone again. Ultimately, it’s just a game, or well, that’s what you keep telling yourself in the heat of the moment! Overwatch 2 is developed by Blizzard Entertainment, and while it’s not available on PlayStation, you can play it on Xbox.
