The social media that belongs to Overwatch has recently shared an animation that is quite extensive, to say the least. The post just reads: ‘More rage rooms should give you big swords š”ļø’ and a video follows. Now, what is the video like? The video features Juno, who will be the next season’s villain of the ‘Vendetta’ faction, and she makes quite a mess with a lot of fruits in what seems to be a futuristic rage room. She carries a huge shining sword with which she does not just chop the watermelons and pineapples but also immerses them below the ground before they can even land. This is really a mood! A mood of utter destruction, fruit-ness, and sword-swinging. What could the players be besides thinking?
In case you havenāt seen it, this is a poster of Overwatch 2‘s new seasonal theme. The ‘Vendetta’ faction is the one portraying the antagonists, and Juno is one of them. The video is just an in-universe, chic advertisement for the rage room experience, which surely flows from the season’s lore or promotional material. Itās a new characterās personality showcase; quite extravagant and funāthe new character is, evidently, strong enough to take her rage out on fruits.
But wow! the responses came in different directions. The Overwatch community seems to have taken the word ‘sword’ as a green light to share all the thoughts that may have been kept for a long time. The discussion that began with the trailer and the big sword gradually shifted to… everything else, little by little.
First, the part of the audience that only came for the fun. One player said, ‘I think sheās a bit fruity but an absolute She Wolf on the battlefield.’ Honestly? A perfect portrayal. ‘Wishing I were that fruit right now,’ was another user simply commenting. Total agreement. A player jokingly asked about the possible physics of the situation, ‘Is this a physics demo? I donāt recall those fruits being able to fly so high.’ It’s a fact that the fruit really did go up.
The next thing that occurred was that users began to view it as a balance discussion and changes. One user tagged the official account and rashly said ‘couldnāt you guys make lifeweaver a little strongerāhis health abilities seem weak.’ An agitated user stated that he wants ‘to fix the matchmaking in qp, get rid of the simians gbr1 server, latam deserves a better sv than this bs jungle.’ The dullness in the way the game reacts to players’ critiques was exactly: ‘here’s a cool thing’ ‘OK BUT FIX THE GAME’ the thread was just a demonstration. There was someone else asking for a skin really badly: ‘cozy juno in the shop tmrw plssssss i beg i need her my shayla.’ You could totally feel how urgent it was.
But hold on, itās going to get stranger. One user, @NamelessVillain, replied to the original tweet, ‘Her? What do you mean her? Why not them? You canāt assume their gender, you fascist bigot homophobic:’ they even attached a meme to their tweet. This caused the main topic of conversation to shift into an entire mini-thread. Another user was trolling them saying, ‘Dude overwatch made her are you already out of your mind,’ to which NamelessVillain retorted, ‘Thanks my mentally ill friend šš».’ Then a third user jumped in that fight with, ‘dude is here dealing with mental illness with his mental illness.’ It was a complete uproar. Community interactions, man. What an interesting phenomenon!
Another category contained solely random requests. One user openly asked, ‘overwatch can you just give me like 440 overwatch coins thank you.’ Another player bluntly put it. One more wondered if this was a ‘doom mythic skin detail leak???,’ which is a ludicrous leap from chopping fruit. A user saw the pineapple and brought up the eternal debate on pizza toppings: ‘If thereās no pineapple around, thereās no risk of seeing pineapple pizza! š’ A user was heard implying, ‘Are you proposing a collaboration with spongebob šš’ presumably, they think fruit + chaos = Bikini Bottom which again is another illustration of the brain making bizarre connections!Ā The enthusiasm for the forthcoming season was expressed by a few of the replies. One of the most passionate comments was, ‘I CANāT WAIT ANY LONGER.’ Another comment that was accompanied by a hype video said, ‘Tomorrow, Vendetta Players will be then.’ Still, the critics were present as well. One player commented: ‘I know you are trying to improve it for console, but it is a bad idea to keep going like this.’
