After months of anticipation, we finally have our hands on the full release of Overthrown! The indie kingdom-building game just hit 1.0 status on Steam, and honestly, the timing couldn’t be better. MaxEnt didn’t just flip a switch and call it done – they’ve delivered what might be the biggest content drop we’ve seen yet.
The headline feature is definitely the Airship Update, and it’s exactly as cool as it sounds. We’re talking full aerial exploration and combat that completely changes how we approach both offense and defense. You can now build your own airships to attack enemy camps from the sky, but here’s the catch – they’re expensive to maintain. Every airship you deploy drains your mana reserves, so you’ll need to be strategic about when and where you use them.
But the outlaws aren’t just sitting around waiting to get bombed. They’ve got their own airships now, which means our ground-based defenses just became obsolete overnight. That’s where the new cannon towers come in. Unlike the existing mortars that lob shells over walls, these bad boys fire directly at incoming airships and ground troops. It’s a whole new layer of tactical depth that we’ve been craving.
The community response has been pretty incredible so far. MaxEnt’s community manager Tara shared the excitement:
“The wait is over! Overthrown 1.0 is available now! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our amazing community for all the excitement and support you’ve shown along the journey to launch! The launch of 1.0 is accompanied by a massive new content drop in the form of the Airship Update!” — @Tara | MaxEnt Community Manager
You can really feel the dev team’s excitement bleeding through that announcement. After supporting this game through early access, it’s awesome to see MaxEnt delivering on their promises with such a substantial update.
Let’s talk about these new outlaws because they’re going to shake up our defensive strategies big time. The Scrapper stays back from the frontlines but constantly repairs and rebuilds outlaw structures – basically making sieges way harder to finish. The Ringleader is this heavily armored elite unit, and there’s only one per camp, so taking them down becomes a priority target situation.
Then there’s the Firestarter, and this one’s genuinely terrifying. They sneak into our settlements at night, start fires, and disappear before we even know what hit us. We’re going to need to completely rethink our nighttime security and patrol routes.
The outlaw camps themselves got a major overhaul too. They’re much larger now with new buildings, which means longer, more involved battles. Combined with the three new enemy types, clearing camps is going to require a lot more planning and resources than before.
Oh, and there’s a new creature called the Devourer. Apparently, Snappers can evolve into these massive things that literally eat buildings and ships. The implications for base defense are pretty wild – we might need to start thinking about creature control as much as outlaw raids.
What really excites us about this update is how it changes the entire flow of combat. Before, most fights happened on the ground with fairly predictable patterns. Now we’ve got aerial threats, stealth attacks, and creatures that can demolish our infrastructure. The strategic depth has expanded massively.
For new players jumping in, this is honestly the perfect time to start. You’re getting the complete vision of what Overthrown was meant to be, not just an early access snapshot. The learning curve might be steeper with all these new mechanics, but that’s what makes it exciting.
For us veterans who’ve been playing since early access, we’re basically learning a new game. Our old strategies and base layouts probably won’t cut it anymore. The meta is wide open, and we’ll all be figuring out optimal builds together.
Looking ahead, MaxEnt has proven they’re committed to substantial updates rather than just bug fixes and tweaks. If the Airship Update is what they consider launch content, we’re probably in for some amazing post-launch support. The foundation they’ve built here has room for so much more expansion.
Right now, Overthrown 1.0 is available on Steam, and honestly, if you’ve been on the fence about kingdom builders, this might be the one that wins you over. The combination of strategic depth and that satisfying building progression hits different when you’re also managing aerial warfare and nighttime infiltrations.
