The announcement of Hello Games’ second merch drop with Youtooz, featuring the charming Gek monsters, pretty much shook the No Man’s Sky community. As one of the first few tweets released from the official No Man’s Sky account, carrying the simple and catchy message, “š Launching on Saturday, 9th August, 12pm PT / 8pm,” along with a link to the Youtooz website and a cute image of the Gek figure, it fueled a huge outburst of excitement.
Well, it blew up.
The gamers flooded the replies with excitement, confusion, and a lot of funny memes. @TheZimulation had simply put it, “Finally! I can buy merch again.” @Anomaly101fan followed with, “I would do anything for figures,” which honestly, is the icing on the cake. Glowing hype indeed.
While most sat back and basked in all the merch glory, a few wanted to discuss… other matters. Enter @majonei1987, who presented the million-dollar question: “Light no fire when?” (In case there are any strays out there- Light No Fire is Hello Games’ upcoming fantasy survival game, which went radio silent shortly after its reveal.) The reply section was then filled with impatience and defense in equal measure, with @Catgirl_Jesus making the reasonable statement, “It’s ready when it’s ready. Sean will show us when he’s ready to show us.”
Some just wanted to vibe; @GregBruniGB wrote, “Love the Gek.” Same here. Gek are iconic, and the idea of them being immortalized into Youtooz figures is a dream come true for all the old-school fans.
Now, the real starāthat of course has to be the merch. The Youtooz figure captures the Gek in all their short and big-eyed glory dripping alien cuteness. Judging by the reactions from the players, they are soon going to be fancy deep. @ECavilldo said, “I never thought the day would come when I would buy a plushie for myself.” Meanwhile, @GodCreator12 chimed in, “$30 bucks a pop now pls do expedition ship props next.”
And BANG! The madness that ensues with each No Man Sky announcement. @VictorH21364077 took an off-script turn with an… interesting request: “Add this lil niga on the game pls” and dropped that with an image completely unrelated. (We honestly have no idea what was going on there, but hey, the internet is a wild place.)
Yet, honestly, such a merch drop means a lot to all No Man’s Sky fans. After troubled launch, the game came a very long way, so seeing some official merch, especially something as adorable as this Gek figure, feels like a celebration of that journey that Hello Games gave us.
So mark the calendar, Interlopers. August 9 is the day the Gek invade your shelves. And based on the reactions, they will be gone FAST.
Now, if only for an update on Light No Fire… But one thing at a time, right?
