The new experiment is situated nose down on the schedule of ON+ Expansion Pack members. But you better be fast! From 21 July at 8 AM PT, the program shall be accepting sign-ups for a juggling number of Switch Online Playtests. It is said to be a first-come, first-served arrangement.
The announcement was made by Nintendo of America’s official Twitter account and motivated a whole plethora of excitement, primarily tinged with disappointment. Some gamers were hyped by the mere option, others were salty for not making it into the last one, and a few simply had no idea what this was supposed to be about. Classic Nintendo chaos indeed.
So, what’s checked in the playtest then? Disney, if acting vaguely about it is the usual selling point. The tweet doesn’t say what’s being tested, but from past rumors and leaks, it very well might be attached to that weird online project in the last round of chatter-how do you say-it was- tucked away with silly costumes and mentions of 4K in the files? Yeah, that one.
Only those who were fully active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pack subscribers before this announcement will be allowed to apply. So no week-before sign-ups trying to slip in! Australian members, we’re sorry to say you’re out of luck on this one too.
Just as ever, the replies are a mess. Some gamers are ranting about not being picked in the last one; some are joking about Custom Robo coming back (lol), and some seriously want Nintendo to fix Mario Kart online instead. Priorities, people.
One thing is certain—Nintendo is definitely testing something, and it is unlikely to be just a random tech demo. Since they’re going into another round, that suggests they’re perfecting what’s involved. Maybe it’s a new online experience; maybe it’s a weird social game; maybe Nintendo is just messing with us all.
