NBA 2K has just released their list for #NBA2KTop100, and the players are quite unhappy. The ratings have surely brought a full-war in the replies, with gamers calling out just about everything-whether one can argue a rookie was overrated or some big stars were blatantly disrespected. Honestly? This mess is quite funny.
Let’s start with the Cooper Flagg scenario. The man has not played even one NBA game and somehow already finds himself above some legit names. @Kyeumei said, “Cooper Flagg over some established NBA names,” and so I concur! Like, how does somebody who is basically a high school kid get ranked higher than guys who’ve been grinding in the league? 2K’s algorithm must be smoking something wild.
Then the insults to the Pacers come in or their absence, depending on which side you ask. @bing1915 just went OFF: “Holy fuck the Pacers insults… You don’t win 12 games vs 60+ win teams in one season, make back to back ECF, and a Game 7 NBA Finals injury to your leader away from winning the title with a roster of bums.” Okay, we see you defending your squad, but then the disrespect came back hard with @nobadges60ovr saying, “he’s better than any player on the pacers.”
How about Jalen Johnson being rated 81? @Chipppy_ said, “Jalen Johnson 81? Whoever is doing these doesn’t know ball.” The guy was a borderline All-Star this year, and y’all gave him the same rating as Bobby Portis? CRIMINAL. On the contrary, Aaron Gordon, who shot his best from beyond the arc and led a killer playoff run, dropped in rating by 2 points. @jammyflakess stated, “Aaron Gordon shot his best from 3 have a good season and had a amazing playoff and get a -2 he should 85.” Facts.
And then, the age-old 2K tale of penalizing players just because they’re in big markets. @bing1915 (This man is doing the lord’s work) said, “If Nembhard played on the Lakers, he’d be 87 rated…” Ain’t that the TRUTH. That Lakers tax is REAL in 2K ratings.
But the real concern? Too many players above the 80 threshold. @ATrainEdin put it bluntly: “Wayyyyy too many players 80 and above. Stop worrying about hurting players feelings and make it like it use to be where 80s and 90s were for the best of the best.” @c4sh_cnsder8tns agreed: “Over 100 players being at least an 80 is not good.” Like, what’s the point of a “top 100” if half the league is in it?
And there came the hordes of trolls. @OwnedByWemby simply posted a gif of someone laughing hysterically captioned, “Me to this list.” Same, bro. Same.
So, days in and decades later, 2K ratings have continuously been the topic for heated discussion. Some players will flow under the radar, others will get overrated, and the fans will go on for weeks arguing. But that is one thing that makes the whole thing interesting, right? Whether it was agreed on or not, NBA 2K at least got people TALKING, and honestly, that was all they ever really needed.
And so, the next batch of outrage awaits.
