NBA 2K Dunk Fest has been put on. It sounds like a lot of fun on paper: double rep, community rewards, and insane dunks. But a humbling scroll through the replies leaves me aghast. The vibes are very much judged.
Opening the event: Dunk Fest is on-going in the Event Center. Four million dunks are needed for the community to unlock rewards. Double rep grinding was supposed to yield good times, right? The community just received a shot of agony, memes, and pure rage.
L-Boogie would tag a bunch of 2K devs and influencers saying 2K26 is “make or-break” for the fanbase. The plea: “Please listen to the community for change.” And they aren’t alone. DatBoiBhris just called this the last 2K he is going to buy, saying the game “hasn’t changed in years” and the devs “focus on everything but basketball.” Painful.
Now comes some more complaining about gameplay: Waytz23 said the game was “unplayable” due to rubber banding in streetball actually. Meanwhile, heyseat was venting coming up against a player whose three-ball was 80 and somehow splattered all sorts of deep whites with it. “Please tell me wtf I seen wasn’t real,” they begged. Spoiler: It was real and it hurt.
They even complain about the rewards. 2KJay joked that top scorers get “just enough VC to buy one hoodie.” MediaTakeOuch said they’re only interested in events that pay out VC for “just playing 1 game.” The rest? “Trying too hard for nothing.” Lilcarcrashh gave his intense feedback as well: “I wish death upon everyone who worked on this game.” Yikes.
Well, that’s hopeful from Juvi5116 bragging about “10 dunks in like 4 games” while joking about showering the opposing team with ‘The Frosted Flake’ (a blue cold streak) after posterizing them. And 816chiefsmokc dropped a mad clip of players fighting during the event, captioned, “You can’t make this up.”
Verdict: Dunk Fest big, grind real, and the patience of the community ever thin. Alongside the RNG issues, rubberbanding glitches, and disappointingly petty rewards, 2K has quite serious fires to quench. Will they listen? That is a million-VC-dollar question.
For now, good luck to you Fortnite players jumping into Dunk Fest; you will need it for both knocking down dunks and dodging the salt in the replies. And if you are waiting for 2K26 to fix everything? Well…keep waiting, I guess.
