That Capcom putting together something new for the Monster Hunter guys and gals must have stirred a lot of hot air-or another bunch of people screaming into their controllers. In this Free Challenge Quest, called “The Daunting Downpour,” the players face Arch-Tempered Uth Duna for some pendants, depending on how fast they are able to kill this fish-big kind of monster. The best part is that some of the players finish it mid-blink, while others seem to be seriously struggling with the challenge.

The timeline for the pendants are:

🥇 Gold – under 14’00″00

🥈 Silver- 20’00″00

🥉 Bronze- 50’00″00

Wow, 50 minutes is the worst rank! So really, if you stay awake in a lot of the fight, you earn a little bit of something. The real bragging rights come at 14 minutes, which a great many hunters are already playing down, calling it easy. @Nomiterasu clapped back, “14 minutes is nuts, you pull that in sleep. Should have been 8.” Ouch.

And not everybody is having a smooth sail. @splinterhood admitted, “I need to optimize my armor and clean up my play. I can’t even get B rank.” The feeling is shared by @Xeranxies: “Honestly I hate this fight so much! But i’mma still try anyway.”

This year, though, there’s the discussions about weapons. Longsword is out there for some flexing (shoutout to @Skaal_Prime); others swear by the lance (@ArawnFoxclaw), and the Lagiacrus weapon class isn’t far behind. @LonelyProducer shares: “Use the rock if opportunity arises, just keep attacking, its attack is predictable once you get used to it.” So, uh… better get good?

Still, some players are waiting for the pendants from the previous challenges. @Psyphinit calls out Capcom: “These pendants need to come out faster. Still waiting for the Mizu one.” And then, really, me too.

And then, the fight itself. @Aaptronym said it best: “The fight itself is fun but holy crap is it frustrating to speedrun with how big, slow and often it attacks.” Meanwhile, @Shadowhunt98 said Uth Duna his area transitions were much smoother than Rey Dau’s… okay, fair enough.

Whether you’re speeding through it or getting absolutely gutted, the quest is yet another incredible addition to an already long line of challenges in Monster Hunter. Remember; bigger fish does exist. Bigger fish is Arch-Tempered Uth Duna. Good luck, hunters. You’re going to want it.
