Capcom issued a new hunt with the Title Update 2 on Monster Hunter: Rise, and the players, well, they have feelings about it. Aptly named “New Fashion, Old Feelings,” the quest requires hunters to return to Windward Plains Base Camp to talk to Gemma, but only after finishing the story quest “A World Turned Upside Down.” And stylish prizes await any player brave enough to accept this fashion challenge against the monsters. While there are some who support the attire, the majority are inconvenienced by constant crashing, horrendous framerate, and loud cries for MH4U port.
Capcom deserves some respect for an amazing 4U pun in its tweet, as hardcore players truly get this is a very deep-cut reference to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Clever? Without a doubt. Did it distract the player base from all the technical issues with this game? In no way. A wave of replies pulled up, reminding Capcom about the game’s less than stellar performance. One player very basically questioned, “have you fixed the game running like chunky dogshit yet? no? well, theres your answer.” The harshness at oof states the obvious. Another entered with “Nope, becasue I cannot launch it without crashing!!!,” which is like trying to walk in heels you bought for aesthetics; painful, yet somewhat worth it.
And then came the… interesting reaction about the reward for ending the quest, discounts from one player exuberantly announcing, “love the jacket that makes female characters have bigger breasts lol nice,” contrasted with another’s sigh, “I like booba but the goggles annoy me.” Priorities, anyway. Meanwhile, fashion-hunters were begging Capcom for MORE of these quests, with one begging, “Please, for the love of ahtal-ka, make or do more of these fashion quests.” (Ahtal-Ka, the mech-building mantis, would 100% approve of this glam grind.)
Now, take a peek at some of the other requests tucked literally inside the replies. “Day 13 of asking for a Hatsune Miku Collaboration,” scoffed a super-fan, while another one cracked a demand, “Please port MH4U.” Then the Frontier fanboys injected their own comment, “They should add monsters from froniter instead.” Classic Monster Hunter community—united in passion, divided over practically everything else.
Oh, and that Wilds drama? Yeah, it seeped in too. One reply grimly observed, “Wild has become the game with the highest negative review rate in the world on Steam. Can you share your thoughts?” At this point, Capcom started sweating nervously, loudly starts talking about Gemma’s jacket again.
Did they even complete the quest? Mixed, I would say. Some too busy lamenting that prowler mode is absent (“Yes, but still not prowler mode…”), some were caught in framerate hell (“Would if I could get 60 fps”), and some were confused (“Wait what are those pants I only got the jacket 🤔”). But those fancy ones who ran through the fashion endgame had nothing but good vibes. A player commented, “Alright, sneaking in the 4U was clever”— credit where credit’s due.
The newest update of Monster Hunter in the heart of the matter is but a microcosm for the charm and chaos the series emanates. Style and nostalgia, technical glitches, and a community that will never join hands on a course of action. Now if you excuse me, let’s go fight on whether Gogmazios should return.
