Capcom published a press release featuring a significant milestone for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The massive expansion has shipped over five million units worldwide.

The milestone comes after the Monster Hunter World initial release in 2018 followed by the Iceborne expansion in September 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on January 2020 for PC.

Monster Hunter World’s adventures reach new heights in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. With new monsters, new locales, new quests, new weapon combos, and so much more. Iceborne expands the possibilities of Monster Hunter World’s vast, breathtaking universe. Join the Research Commission as they embark on an unforgettable adventure into the depths of the Hoarfrost Reach, a snowy tundra that a host of legendary monsters call home.” state the official Steam store summary. The game nearly doubles the content from the base game with a new story, monsters, locales, new difficulty mode, and a new end game.

Iceborne’s five million player milestone comes around two months after the PC launch and reaching four million worldwide sales.

The game has continued to release new content, including free weapons and armor. “This has helped drive shipments of the game to 15 million units worldwide as of January 2, 2020—the first title in Capcom’s history to achieve this record-high.” states the press release.

Both the base game and expansion have won awards since its release, including the PlayStation Network Award at the PlayStation Awards 2019.

Capcom previously released its 2020 roadmap for Iceborne. It includes Update 13.3 with two new monsters on consoles. On PC, the update 13.03.00 includes the Guiding Lands “Tundra Region” plus two new monsters: Safi’jiiva and Stygian Zinogre. In the 3rd free title update, there are two new Fearsome Variants: the Raging Brachydios and Furious Rajang.

The overall cumulative sales of the series exceeded 62 million units.

There is still plenty in store for the Monster Hunter series. A live-action adaptation starring Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa is in production, with official screenshots and artwork slowly being released online. The film is still scheduled to be released sometime in 2020.

A mobile title, Monster Hunter Riders, on iOS and Android launched in February and has already reached three million downloads.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
