Capcom dropped a huge nostalgia bomb on us. The Twitter post said it’s been exactly five years since the release of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne on PS4 and Xbox One back in 2019. Five years?? And it asked players to share theirs?? The replies have been insane, washing over the tweet with love and some… interesting opinions on the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds.

First and foremost: Iceborne was a BIG deal. It was not some small DLC. It really was a monster of an expansion that, online, gave players almost another game to contend with: Hoarfrost Reach, new monsters, and the Clutch Claw… because it was a game changer. In fact, there are the loud and proud gamers that cannot stop talking about their love for this couple.

AAG Vanitas was one of the earlier ones that really brought back memories of the incurring pain: “Barioth taught me what MR difficulty was for the first time coming from the catchup gear lol.” And that is true. I mean, for many people, Barioth was that wall, that moment when you finally learned that Master Rank was no joke. It was like the game saying, “Oh, you thought you were good? Here, hold my potion.”

Those are still some of the holdouts: Aegis ⏳✨ said, “What a legendary time… I’m still out there casually helping people beat Alatreon and Fatalis to this day.” The thing about Monster Hunter is the community never stops. Alatreon and Fatalis are going to be the legendary critical end-game bosses that those hunters are still answering SOS Flares for now, helping the newbies beat them. How cool is that?

Another big one for the love of those final battles. iHCSx said, “My favourite thing was the whole thing. From Shara Ishvalda to Alatreon I miss it.” Ecto shares a bit of a story from their Whole World/Iceborne intro to the series thanks to a partner, their favorite moment: “the amazing climactic fight with Fatalis” as “a great send-off for the game.” On bonus points, they shared some screen captures.

Now, not all the reminiscing is cheerful. Some remember that good ol’ crazy. Soluz Cielo VT🍃🐉 recounted the hilarious Rajang encounter: “When Rajang was released he grabbed me and started air frying me with his stanky breath. Then he proceeded to suplex me in the air. I thought I was good as dead.” That is indeed imagery. Thank you very much.

Roger Puig’s memory is that one everybody relates to: “That first banbaro….” followed by a crying-laughing emoji. Sometimes, you really don’t need to say anything. Everyone who played will know exactly what that means. That big moose just crashing into your hunt out of nowhere would have been a rite of passage.

Now, here is where it gets spicy. In a manner of speaking, the very ending of that tweet turned into an arena for a couple of fiery feelings about Monster Hunter Wilds. Kinda funny, and a little awkward. The replies were several that were not in English, but we did get some translations.

One user, Madruguinha, wrote in Portuguese: “It even made me want to install and play again, very different from this trash called MH Wilds..” Ouch. Another, Cathaysa (Kat) 🇪🇸, said in Spanish: “Monster Hunter World is better than Monster Hunter Wilds…. by far. You screwed up Capcom ☹️ 👎🏻” And Roderic Gale ⚔️ Vtuber took a direct shot at performance: “my favourite memory is how well it ran compared to wilds!”

Clearly, Wilds isn’t out yet, so these are some pretty strong opinions formed solely on trailers and specs. But this shows how deeply connected players are to World and Iceborne. They raised the bar super high. Some folks, like Capi Mad Juan, straight up called it the best in the series: “This game will always live rent-free in my mind, it’s imo the best to the series, ever.”

There were just tons of people expressing pure, unfiltered love. Sypha said it was “genuinely one of the best video game experiences ever.” Alex Caceres fan just screamed “OH HOW I MISS IT” with a sad face emoji. The vibe is overwhelmingly positive, a real celebration of a game that clearly meant a lot to a ton of people.

And you can’t forget the smaller, cuter moments. Daily Beans shared a sweet one: “My favorite small monster across the entire MH franchise: the wulg 🥰 I can only dream of their return” with a picture of the furry little guys. It’s not all about slaying giant dragons, sometimes it’s about appreciating the weird little creatures that try to nibble your ankles.

So yeah, five years later, and the Iceborne love is still going incredibly strong. It’s really cool to see a game have this kind of lasting impact. Players are still helping each other through the toughest fights; they are still exchanging war tales and still very protective of the experience that it gave them. It’s going to be a tough act for Wilds to follow, that for sure. Big shoes to fill for Capcom. But for now, they’re all just happy reminiscing about getting suplexed by a super saiyan monkey and loving every second of it.
