Pay attention, all you hunters out there! Capcom has introduced a new event quest that is ice-themed in general, besides being a permanent one in Monster Hunter World. The official Monster Hunter account has confirmed that you can take on the challenge of the 9-star Arch-tempered Jin Dahaad in the ‘Heart of Judecca’ area. But the twist is that to make the new Dahaad γ armor sets of imposing quality with the materials obtained from Jin Dahaad, you will have to first deal with the ice-bound creature. Hence, a fresh drip has come, but you will earn it!
The communication was more than just clear, while the responses? The replies absolutely are the place where one can feel the true vibe of the Monster Hunter community. It is a chaotic but beautiful mix of hype, complaints about grinding, debates on weapon balance, and… tech support scams even?!? Let’s go deeper into it.
Good things first! It seems that some players are up in arms already about how easily they managed to get through the quests. Damian Jendryassek posted just ’30 min 2 gems gg’, which is a kind of effective shouting that makes the person feel simultaneously impressed and a bit envious. However, others just say that their main concern is the quest being permanent. User Ness Hunter emphasized that part, stating, ‘it’s permanent anyways. So people can take their time.’ Anyone who hates being under pressure because of the rotating event schedules can now find a little relief from that.
Nonetheless, this is Monster Hunter, after all. The grind is a core aspect of the game and yes, there are still people who are not very enthusiastic about it. User AL, replying as SuperOnePack, seemed to be indicating a general weariness about the game’s upgrading system when he said, ‘Awesome but probably just gonna make the gear fo lyered. Upgrading gear from level 1 to max is just a brutal week long grind.’ This turned out to be a perfect lead-in for quite a mini-debate in the comments section about the history of the series. ‘Bro would not survive old mh,’ was the retort from Kaitanaroyr, while Arnauzer added, ‘How soft, I remember having to beat 57 Rathian for 1Gem in 4U.’ It is the never-ending conflict between the old-school gamers and those who have been spoiled by the modern-day comforts. User Bopalakpak probably captured the feeling best when he jokingly wrote, ‘It’s almost like that’s supposed to be the gameplay loop! 😮’
Then the talk about weapons came up. The Charge Blade community is continually very energetic. A user with the screen name ‘Charge Blade enjoyer’ was really brave and didn’t hesitate to point a finger at Capcom: ‘you are not done with the charge blade. Savage Axe still destroys everything while the rest of the kit is either useless or very clunky to use.’ This sparked a very detailed discussion that included elemental SAEDs and motion values that would probably bewilder even the fastest speedrunners. For some players, new content is good, but having the feel of their favorite weapon fixed is the ultimate goal.
Oddly, the discussion also meandered into the territory of… possible scams? User BagboyBrown posted a screenshot of an email exchange with someone who allegedly was from ‘monster hunter wilds support’ and was asking for the user’s opinion about the situation. Another user, XeroSkillGaming, asked what exactly was suspicious, but then BagboyBrown pointed out that the official support email address is ‘mhwilds_support@capcom.com.’ A good reminder for all of us to always check the sources. Don’t allow your account to be hacked while you are out hunting dragons.
And then there is the raw and bitter salt. One player, Goodbye, really lost his temper: ‘Damn you! I am paying to play a game that has been broken since its launch, even through the fourth update. It is buggy and boring. I won’t come back until it’s playable.’ Timo Maanen replied to a comment with a similar sentiment saying that if the next two updates won’t help then ‘there is no hope left that it will ever be playable.’ Ouch! That’s a tough contrast to the hype.
Other demands were also raised. Blu Wolf suggested event quests that come with a certainty of crown sizes or a Whopper fish quest, thus demonstrating that completionists have their own particular wishlists. And Sylvi made a kind of amusing yet quite sad public service announcement: ‘I can’t believe I’m saying this but if the monster is about to nuke, pull a boulder down and hide behind it. We are almost a year into the Monster Hunter Wilds era, and many players on PlayStation and Xbox are still learning the basics.’
