Capcom dropped a crazy teaser for Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 3, really for those weird, wonderful players out there that make this series a gem. The official Monster Hunter Twitter account teased some new Event Quest rewards, one of which involves a set of Dual Blades that looked like they were made out of meat. Yes, you heard that right. Meat. Like… some actual steak blades. 🥩

The Tweet reads, “We’ve got even more Event Quests coming as part of Title Update 3 that will reward special equipment! Here’s a sneak peek at one of them, a set of Dual Blades with a rather tasty theme!” While the community’s reaction has been a gorgeous combination of hype, confusion, and sheer joy. It’s not every day you get to carve giants with what appear to be giant slabs of weaponized steaks.

But then, the internet, as ever, started setting the tone with the replies. Some players are actually into this idea. User GreatStoryCorey said, “I’ve always loved a good set of meat blades” and, honestly, so would I. CipherAdel said, “I did not expect I’d be able to beat monsters with my own meat… amazing content, and it’s gonna go great with my corn gunlance” – so there’s corn weapons too?? This game is one big feast.

Then we have some creative minds like Olivia W.D., who apparently foresaw this exact thing back in 2023 by sharing an old tweet containing art entitled “Day26; Dual meats” with the hashtag #Rathalaugust2023. There are times it almost seems like the community knows before the developers do.

But an update wouldn’t be a Monster Hunter update without some, uh, heated discussions about the state of the game. Many responses brought up the PC version of the game and its numerous issues. RealMadvicius joked, “Damn that meat do be cooking just like my whole PC when trying to run the game at 1080p!” BlushyVT, on the other hand, said, “Fix the PC port faster and then we’ll talk, thanks.” Oof.

Then there’s back and forth: whether Monster Hunter Wilds is a live-service-game or a not, with Avellar saying, “It’s not a live service game. People expecting constant updates on a fast turnaround are in the wrong game.” While others still want QoL, like free edits of characters, without vouchers – as Noah asked, “Will you finally let us edit our hunters & palicos for free without vouchers in tu3 too?”

Speculation on how these meat blades are going to work in-game has already begun. Fleshly Delight noted in reference to previous joke weapons, like the pickaxe, that they had special skills tied to their theme and said, “The pickaxe weaponry has a skill that increases damage upon mining a deposit, so it’s possible the meat DBs can function in a similar manner.” Perhaps they’ll buff you when you’re eating? Who knows!

And of course, players are already begging for more food-themed weapons. Xiflus begged “Pls pls plssss we need the steak hammer from mhw PLEAAASEEE!!! 😭😭😭” because apparently, there was a giant meat hammer in Monster Hunter World which people loved. Blacknite79x also said, “The meat mallet is gonna look crazy in those combos” – the thought of flipping around with big slabs of meat is both ridiculous and kind of awesome.

There are even requests for UI changes mixed in, with yeziaphael asking, “Add the Enemy HP Lifebar with the option to turn On/Off🫡” because hey, while we’re getting meat weapons, why not throw in some QoL too?

It’s really interesting to see that the community can be split on how fast updates roll out and what needs getting. Some players are super excited for these silly, cosmetic additions. Some want to fix stuff and bigger content. Mr. Voodoo called out the toxic rhetoric: “As soon as you start using rhetoric like ‘dead game’ or ‘dev team bad’ that is divisive and non-constructive; you become part of the problem.”

But in the end, these are the kinds of things that make one of the most beloved franchises of all time: Monster Hunter. The game doesn’t really take itself seriously. Where else could you get excited about possibly sledgehammering a dragon to death with a giant chunk of meat? The team certainly has a sense of humor about their weapons, and these event-type quest rewards should be great fun to earn and use.

Title Update 3 seems to be bringing some seriously fun content to PlayStation and Xbox versions of Monster Hunter Wilds. Between meat blades, other special equipment rewards, and whatever else Capcom is cooking up (pun fully intended), it seems the hunters are going to have lots to sink their teeth into pretty soon. Now if only they really solve those PC performance woes, that’d just be the extra seasoning on this pretty tasty-looking update.
