The Arch Tempered monster was just added to Monster Hunter Wilds and the community is… actually, they are having mixed reactions. Capcom announced in the message that the Arch Tempered Nu Udra is obtainable while playing the quest titled ‘Be Cursed, Ye Shadowy Flame’, and that hunters together with their Palicos are able to obtain and craft the new Nu Udra γ armor sets as well as get other special rewards. The reaction has, to say the least, been a tangle of absolute delight and total gloom.

Right from the start, players are getting totally overwhelmed. There is one player Brandon who is a hunter and has even posted a video of himself asking for help where he is saying “What is the counter damage here? Where am I wrong? Defending with 729 and having full stun resist and 25 fire resist, what else can I do so that I am not getting killed like this??” The poor guy is caught in a stun animation and all he can do is take the next hit. That is tough man. But on the contrary, another player Sabrina just plainly said “I’m still trying to kill that fucking robot” which could definitely be considered a mood.

Yet the situation is not that bad. The new equipment has been a success for some hunters. JackXrost was ecstatic and said “The Nu Udra Y Set is awesome. For the first time, I’m wearing a full set in MH Wilds and I’m ready for the nu udra challenge quest.” Rey Diablos went further by talking about the skills, “This armor has amazing skills! Almost all the skills that I am using (Burst, Counterstrike) are there and there is still room for Part Breaker, WeXploit & Divine Blessing!” This indicates that the meta chasers are pretty much satisfied with what they received.

This is followed by the issue of… the aesthetics controversy. Ethan was not at all impressed with the armor’s design and went on to say “I am asking again for something more than a simple reskin.” One of the players tried to counter the argument based on the skills, but Ethan came back saying “Dude, I’m not talking about the skills. The skills are fantastic! I am talking about the look of the armor 🤦🏻♂️ it seems to be done very fast and cheap, that all it is is a different pattern and a different color.” This opened up a long and heated debate on the issue of should Arch Tempered armor be made more distinguishable from the regular versions or not. Some gamers do not want simple recolorings but rather completely new models.

At the same time, the Monster Hunter team is probably observing the whole drama unfold, sitting comfortably in their chairs. Players are even asking for more content – Zinzorb was expressing his wish “Can we have more 9 quests that grant 5 talismans only? I am done with Serigios and Lagi hunting.” And then janejp was pondering over the future monsters: “I would love to see you bring monsters from Frontier/Explore to the MR Expansion and also Cephadrome Plesioth Monoblos back. Here’s hoping Akantor/Ukanlos back, maybe as DLC.”

The Arch Tempered Nu Udra is not the only one getting good reviews – OHR6 expressed his view saying “He is a perfectly made Arch Tempered version. I enjoy the sound of that new oil explosion attack 💥💥💥” So, at least not all players are let down regarding the monster design.

There was one point that really caught the attention of people and that was the fact that the community was so divided on the issue of difficulty. There were some players who were completely overwhelmed while others like Rowan were saying “I just used my basic fire resist set and did it on the very first attempt with a buddy. I thought it to be much worse than it turned out lol.” However, this is the charm of Monster Hunter – the game that is impossible for one player can be just a stroll in the park for another.

When it comes to armor skills, however, it is the case that the real winner is that they are the real winner here. Several players are talking about how the Nu Udra γ set is opening up new build possibilities and is combining well with other Arch Tempered sets. Thus, players are given more reasons to grind and experiment with different combinations, which is certainly a good thing for the health of the game.

Now the question is when the next wave of content updates will come? kuzal__ directly asked “When does the challenge quest come out” and honestly, I feel the same. The subtlety about more difficult modes beyond the existing ones has left players wondering what could be next. Frenzy monsters? More Arch Tempered versions? The community is thirsty for the endgame content.
