The latest trailer for Monster Hunter Stories 3 has just been released, and the gamers are losing it over this epic war theme between two nations. Capcom’s official Monster Hunter Twitter account got the hype train chugging with a cryptic tweet, “As the shadow of calamity creeps across the land, two nations stand on the precipice of all-out war.” And, I tell you, that teaser gave chills all the way.
First things first. What is this war even about? All we know is that the trailer is all about armies clashing, riders charging into battle with their monsties, and some pretty intense moments that suggest this might not be just another monster-taming story. Something loud and clear about huge, world-ending stakes as the mainline Monster Hunter fans love. But since this is Stories, expect really good storytelling, some emotional tie-ins with your monsties, and, perhaps, some heavy decision-making.
Now, about monsters! There are all sorts of bets being placed by players on what monsters will be included. User @IDigGaming96 said that Gore Magala should be a rideable monstie, and honestly, that would be insane. The pandemonium of Gore Magala, infecting and spreading chaos, could lead to some really wild gameplay changes! Meanwhile, @Olympian_son really wants Rakna-Kadaki to be a monstie–just imagine riding that spider queen into battle!
@JimothyEX is just looking for anything that has to do with Legiana. You can’t blame them with Legiana being a stylish and popular design. And @HiPlayerProdigy pointed out that a lot has happened since Monster Hunter Stories 2—Iceborne, Rise, Sunbreak, and now Wilds. That, in theory, would imply that we could be to see monsties from all of these games, and that would be huge!
Before the hype overwhelms everyone, a few voices of doubt have made themselves heard. @Commander_Finn wondered if now was finally the time to get exposure to Stories 1 and 2. Short answer? YES. Stories spin-offs are criminally underrated with turn-based combat, monster-raising mechanics, and a surprisingly heartfelt story. And if you’re new, don’t worry—each game stands on its own, so you won’t be lost.
The one guy, though: @admiral0n, who said short and snappy, “Who cares we want 3 Wilds update.” So, yeah, there goes @admiral0n; hoped you guys could enjoy both. Meanwhile, @SyncWithThomas is still tied to what is up with MH Outlanders? Seriously, Capcom needs to give us some answers.
And this is just the pre-order talk. @JackXrost has straightforwardly asked, “When will I be able to throw money at this?” Honestly, same. It hasn’t been given an official date yet, but soon has to be with the amount of hype flying. Then, @BigBossDJB hopes that Wilds monsters will be introduced after launch. That would make one hell of a crossover.
By the way, @scpcero49 dropped a great lore bomb in Spanish: “¿Estarán los cazadores quebrantando juramento al usar armas del gremio en contra de gente?” That translates to, “Are hunters breaking their oath by using guild weapons against people?” This is a very legit question, considering Monster Hunter’s lore has always been strict about hunters not turning their blades on humans. If this war is about human vs. human combat, that marks a substantial shift.
The visuals are nothing but beautiful, with the gorgeous environment, full of action-packed battle scenes, and the unmistakable charm angle of Monster Hunter. Also, being that it goes to consoles (double shoutout to @ArtiFi0 on the hype), it will definitely be a step up in the graphics department from what we’ve had on Stories 2.
Well, so yeah, Monster Hunter Stories 3 is definitely shaping up to be the “got to play.” War! New Monsties! Highly Tricky Moral Dilemmas! We’re on it. Now, if only we knew the release date, and there’s one more thing to know: Gore Magala.
There is, however, a couple more hours until this is out, so if the Stories 1 and 2 games didn’t get much of your attention. Go ahead and catch up because this one needs you ready.
