Capcom for sure today is, so far, the most talked-about company among game hunters. The official Monster Hunter account has just announced that there is indeed a Monster Hunter Showcase coming up on Monday at 2 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. GMT. And the main topics of the event? A completely new and more detailed discussion of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Free Title Update 4 along with everything related to Monster Hunter Stories 3. The lucky ones will be able to see it all happening on YouTube or Twitch.
That is, of course, the official news—one showcase, two big titles, and one streaming event. But if you look at the comments on that tweet, the real story is not just about the hype—it is about hope vs. disbelief and even some very hot arguments on PC performance. It’s quite the atmosphere out there.
The spectators have no doubt a lot of excitement regarding the upcoming stuff. Users keep on making claims like “I am the one who is ready!!!” and “I am really excited for GOG” and many of them are just hoping that the mysterious black dragon Gogmazios will show up in Wilds. Others are even saying that they want Frontier monsters, or are asking about certain gears like Dreamspell skins. And for the turn-based RPG lovers, the wait for Monster Hunter Stories 3 is almost over as one player just wants a demo “to hold me over”. This is the good stuff, the total expectation that makes these showcases very delightful.
But on the other hand… you get to the comments that present the opposite view. And wow, it becomes spicy in no time. The performance state of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC and Xbox Series S is the issue that readers discuss mostly (by a huge margin). It has gone beyond being a whisper, it has turned into a scream. One user asked flat out, “Did they fix the performance?” Another user called Skarm made a sarcastic comment, asking “will rathalos be there? ahead of the terrain going through monsters?” and took it serious “you need that performance patch to stick”.
The most passionate complaint is from a user who goes by the name Ollie Heiz. He personally tweeted Capcom: “Please Guys don’t abandon the series S.” They further explained that they are a faction of “broke” Series S owners and if the optimization in Title Update 4 is not helping them they should “corner Capcom with our complaints”. They fear the worst that they will be left behind and this fear is very much alive in the community.
And then there is the glorious PC master race… civil war? One user named BagboyBrown set off a firestorm by proclaiming that he is able to run Wilds on max graphics at a steady 60fps with his “10 year old PC”. This was followed by shock and disbelief of the kind, “The biggest lie told in mankind” and a lot of more technical counterclaims. Another gamer, DuaneM07, responded to him saying he has a powerful 4070 Ti and still encountering issues at 1440p, he argues the use of tools like DLSS and Frame Generation actually acknowledges the presence of problems.
What followed was a back-and-forth about monitors, settings, and what is considered as “a problem”. BagboyBrown even posted a link to their monitor as proof. Meanwhile, others joined in hoping that the promised performance updates will indeed come with TU4, with one ready to say,” Hopefully we will be informed about that today, it is definitely coming with TU4.” So the community is literally on tiptoe, waiting to see if this update is the fix they have been promised all along.
Honestly speaking, this is an absolutely wild combination. The pure happiness for new monsters and stories goes hand in hand with long-standing silent frustrations over technical issues. One player even called the game “fucking dead” and speculated if the director was an “undercover agent,” which is… dramatic, but it does show how highly charged the emotions are. The today’s showcase is not only about what is next; for a major part of the audience, it is a test of whether Capcom is attentive to these very picky, very loud complaints.
Doesn’t this imply a lot for the showcase? Well, Capcom will get an opportunity to confront the elephant in the room face to face. For sure, they will reveal the showcase phenomenal new, attractive creatures coming with Wilds TU4 and not only that, they might even treat us to a nice trailer for MH Stories 3. However, if they genuinely wish to restore a part of their player base, they must talk about the optimization openly. Just a mere phrase like “And we have significantly improved performance across all platforms” could easily calm down the social media storm that is about to break.
Otherwise, the viewpoint would be divided. The community is also discussing related platforms like PlayStation.
