Capcom has just revealed that the Diva’s seasonal song is leaving Monster Hunter, and the players are a hundred percent against this decision. The official Monster Hunter Twitter account has already started to bid farewell to the seasonal music and also expressed their gratitude to the Diva for “serenading us during the seasonal event” by posting a lovely picture of the character. However, what seemed to be a simple end-of-event notice has ignited serious controversy among the hunters’ community.
The Diva’s latest track was announced as a seasonal event exclusive and unlike its festival predecessors that continued to rotate, this one is getting completely wiped out. Yet, players are observing this and indeed a lot. A user candidly asked, “Wait. It’s not gonna stay in rotation like the previous festival songs? 😔 while another complained, “Damn that song is exclusive to the event? It’s the only one I like lol.”
There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the issue as previous seasonal songs did remain in the music rotation. Like, why would they ever change that rule? Ada2987_art pointed out this inconsistency by asking, “Why are previous songs in rotation and this one isn’t? I really hope that’s just a mistake?” But the official statement conveys that it is no mistake at all – they are indeed saying goodbye to this track.
But hold your horses, the music issue is far from the main event. It was when BigRedWebhead user brought up another issue altogether that the situation got out of control, asking, “Will you be saying goodbye to paywalling story content?” This opened a huge discussion about Monster Hunter Stories 3, and some side story content that seems to be locked behind the deluxe edition paywall.
The conversation turned tense very quickly. BigRedWebhead insisted that Capcom might be paywalling story content in Stories 3, but that then raises the question of what they might do in mainline games. “What if the expansion has additional side stuff like raging brachy or furious rajang from iceborne locked behind a paywall?” Other users like Kaiser93 also noticed that the music issue was completely unrelated and pointed out that this strange division in the conversation where people are bringing up two entirely different points about Monster Hunter in the same thread.
It’s kind of funny if you think about it — some players are mourning over their favorite song being removed while others are debating about the heated future games’ monetization policies. Grisnir even added his funny comment, “Who cares for the Diva, it’s Fabius we will be missing ðŸ˜,” which just takes the situation to a whole new level.
On the contrary, some players are going through a tough time with the music removal. RusagiPlays begged for an extension of time byposting “Plz extend the event for an extra week 😔 with crying emojis, OneTrueMink shared a touching artwork of saying “I’ll miss your new song so much, Diva.” On the contrary, there are players like Nepht1979 who had a completely different response and remarked, “Can we just say goodbye to the Diva. Kinda sick of this twat blinding me.” So it seems that not everyone is grumpy about her departure?
The whole situation points to the degree of players’ attachment to these seasonal features in Monster Hunter. The music, decorations, and special events are all part of the memorable moments created for the players. If you take away something that has become a daily routine for a player, especially when it is contrary to the established patterns, it is bound to cause some noise.
And then there is the whole paywall issue in Stories 3 that somehow got mixed up in this music discussion. It feels like the main series players worried about music rotation and the Stories players complaining about future monetization have clashed – the two different Monster Hunter communities. Both groups are passionate about their respective games and when Monster Hunter Wilds makes decisions they don’t like, they are definitely not hesitant to raise their voices.
In the end, it is rather surprising how a simple “goodbye to seasonal music” tweet turned into this multifaceted discussion of game preservation, player expectations, and corporate practices. Monster Hunter fans sure are loyal, and they can recognize when something deviates from what they are accustomed to. Whether it’s a song being taken away or content being locked behind paywalls, the community has got opinions and is not shy at all in expressing them.
Nonetheless, the event seemed to have been quite positively received, as several players thanked Capcom for the experience. Nyx__MH was happy about the MH4U music reference, NinoMMO mentioned that they “really had fun,” and Ifreann simply said thank you for the event. So, it’s not all bad – only some specific decisions were the ones players whined about.
As the seasonal events come and go in live service games, the developers always face the hard task of keeping things fresh while also considering PlayStation and Xbox player expectations.
