Capcom launched this bombshell on Twitter, and éhé reactions have been something special. Whatever anybody may say, the official Monster Hunter account announced the monster famed known as the Gammoth (that big massive woolly mammoth monster from Generations) is now stomping into Monster Hunter Puzzles. Right, Mobile Puzzle Game. Not Monster Hunter Wilds, the real next big game everybody’s been waiting for.
The event goes by the name “Mountain God (Summit Supreme)” and is going on right now but for a very short while up to 7 pm PDT, 11 September; however, who even cares about that puzzle game? The die-hard fans aren’t, because the replies are a total mess of disappointment and outright rage.
Okay, let’s break it. It starts all psyched and hyped like “Gammoth stomps into Monster Hunter–” BAM, “…Puzzles!” The players were not having it. One perfect reflection of the general public mood came from @manwhoexplodes and goes, “Gammoth stomps into Monster Hunter– 😀 …Puzzles! D:.”
Folks thought this was some news of Wilds. @HoodSquirrel said, “Got my neck broke I thought this was for Wilds😭,” while @Niverg_ commented, “The fucking hype I got from the first bit then saw puzzles.” It’s just as if Capcom teased everybody just on those first few words and then pulled the rug out. Not cool, Capcom, not cool.
Plus, all those calls for Gammoth in Wilds. @DemMeliodas55 was blunt with, “Can we get her in Wilds please possibly as DLC soon 🥺,” for his part, @draco_1400 demanded, “Gammoth should stomp to Wilds.” There are talks to bring back the entire Fated Four-Gammoth, Glavenus, Astalos-who would really need to be back, eh?
Back to the puzzle event. Well, @That_One_Fool posted a table-flip gif; just about appropriate. Then @Ana_NevermoreVT called out Capcom: “Y’all wrong for this 😭.” The feeling goes as one: why the hell place such a beloved monster in a mobile spin-off game when every other soul wants it back in the mother game?
Meanwhile, some players are holding on for a shot of optimism. @Brettku commented that it’d be “pretty dope to see Gammoth show up on the Ice Shard Cliffs sometime” in Wilds, and it’s kind of an obvious statement. Meanwhile, @ForteSutcliff was thinking how cool it would be to have the whole Fated Four in Wilds: more frustration.
There was some slight gender confusion with @RANDUM clarifying, “Her we aren’t permitted to hunt male ones.” Monster Hunter lore means business, people.
But honestly, this went down as a missed opportunity. People wanted a juicy announcement with Wilds days away rather than a mobile puzzle update. “Ugh. I about pissed my pants so excited thinking I would finally have a reason to play Wilds,” said @breakr_28. That just shows how much everyone wants to see Gammoth again in the main games.
Let’s face it: Monster Hunter Puzzles is fine, I suppose, but that is not what the core audience has been begging for. With monsters as iconic as Gammoth, it is almost a slap to the face for this fanbase to present these monsters in a puzzle game.
Speaking of, the new event is up, and you may want to try out. For now, the bulk of Monster Hunter players will just remain, clutching onto the hope that Gammoth will finally make it to Wilds sometime soon. Until then, it’s just teasing. Capcom, if you hear this, the voice of the people have spoken loud and clear. Give us what we want.
