In an extravagant manner, Konami has demonstrated its appreciation to all the gamers that supported Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater by presenting a new accolades trailer that disclosed the reviews of the game by the critics. The official Metal Gear Twitter account shared the accolade and informed gamers that they could instantly play the remake of the jungle on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The whole gamer sentiment about this jungle return long wished for is what eccentrically gets a big tick through the critics’ reviews and the marketing company’s celebration.

Indeed, the accolades trailer is out and Konami literally shows a large 🫡 to the community. They are showcasing critics’ reviews, lifting their glasses, and marketing. Pretty much standard stuff, right? But when you look into the replies… it’s a whole different world out there, like a jungle with a different set of rules for gamers.

To start with love is definitely coming from the gamer world. Mr. Sparta went as far as to claim that he LOVES the new version more than the old one. That’s like… ahearing people say a lot, quite grand for any remake, especially one as adored as Snake Eater. He is even using applause emojis. Then, we have Dustin Daetwiler not ashamed to say he made his move with a day one physical copy on Xbox Series X. That is some strong dedication.

But then again… oh man, then there is another perspective. A lot of gamers are voicing out their complaints that are rather unavoidable. Jeff from Jeffstoysandcollectibles chastised the developers stating that the controls are “really bad” and the enemies don’t react when you shoot them? He even labeled it a waste of money till updates sort out the issues. Ouch, that’s tough.

JorgeNot voices almost the same kind of discontent stating that he could bear only 40-minutes gameplay as he found the game less playable and slower than he expected. Hard to believe since Metal Gear is his all-time favorite series. The scenario of your most devoted fans having difficulty getting through the game is… awful.

Next is the issue around the performance patch. Saad Khan is still expecting the PS5 Pro performance fix patch, while MasterDarkseid wants to know the status of the promised update 1.1.5. Gamers are adamant about having their games run smooth, especially considering they are paying full price for a remake of a classic.

However, the community seems to be still looking forward. The whole deal with the Fox Hunt multiplayer component that will soon follow is the talk of the town while there is also the opinion of Metal Gear Network that the anticipation feels flat and that more engagement with the community is needed. They are all but imploring “give us the content to work with, Konami!” This is totally understandable as building hype for multiplayer modes is crucial.

Last but not least… the next thing is being asked by everyone. Many are pleading for Master Collection Volume 2, which would presumably cover the other Metal Gear Solid games. Dutch is asking for an MSX Metal Gear remake with David Hayter, while Ryan is anticipating Peace Walker to be the next one to get the remake treatment. The thirst for more Metal Gear content is unquestionably there.

Also, I can’t miss the opportunity to mention the Fortnite gang! A number of fans are clamoring to have a Snake skin added in Fortnite. Cole went as far as to say “It’s peak. Now put him in @Fortnite”, which… honestly, that would be pretty amazing? Just picture Snake doing the griddy right after winning a victory royale. We are just not ready for that.

There’s a little bit of international touch too with SNAΔAKE asking in Arabic for something about vol2, which I assume is also in reference to Master Collection Volume 2. The demand is global, people!

But what is the actual story? Konami seems to be celebrating a successful launch with their accolades trailer while the player base is… divided. Some people are completely in love with the remake, others are facing severe issues regarding controls and performance, yet, everybody is eager to know what next is coming. That’s the classic split in gaming communities where you have super fans, critics, and people only hoping for fixes and future content.

The launch of Metal Gear Solid Δ seems to be experiencing that awkward phase where the marketing department is giving high-fives and patting each other on the back while the players are going through the actual experience. Some players are having a fantastic time reenacting Snake Eater with stunning new graphics, while others are stuck in gameplay mechanics that are reminiscent but do not feel exactly right.

Nevertheless, Metal Gear is back and the people are strong enough to demonstrate their love for the series regardless of whether their love is good or bad. The brand has certainly maintained its spell strong enough to combine love and hate among the people. The only remaining question is whether Konami will respond to the concerns, keep the momentum going with updates, and announce what is next for the series. The jungle is waiting.
