One fresh announcement in Marvel Rivals: Magik and Black Panther will be getting skins with Phoenix influence, much to the fans’ delight. The skins are named “Phoenix Demon” for Magik and “Phoenix Panther” for Black Panther; with the release set for 31st July 7 PM PDT, dispatch a literal fire onto the field of battle. Judging by the trailer, these skins go beyond just looks – they are a vibe.
With a caption that read, “Rise, and rise again—the phoenix within you has arrived,” the official announcement tweet from Marvel Rivals gave us our first view of the skins. The elaborate artwork presents the pair engulfed in flames, ready to set everything ablaze. Magik looks to continue the mystical tradition, with fiery undertones and demonic flair, whereas Black Panther sports a suit that glows with embers and overt phoenix symbolism. These visual upgrades are pure motivation to main these characters just for showing off.
Yet, not all are delighted. The selections of replies went into a sea of mixed reactions. Some were hyped, like @spaceboatfloat, “Can’t wait to see this BP skin in my comp games.” Others expressed fear, like @looseleafe_: “Black Panther mains are gonna be more annoying now.. 😭😭.” Then came the salty voice of @wachiwachiwa321, who rued the exclusion of Peni Parker from the Phoenix party and exclaimed, “SHAME.” Ouch.
The pitch-black emperor of Black Panther discourse refused to fade. Others used the opportunity to air all their complaints about matchmaking. @ibeenlowkey dropped a whole rant about how complaining would change nothing unless the players stopped tossing money about, while @Lamooshka77 went full doomsayer, warning that this game will “die” if the devs don’t fix the EOMM (Engagement Optimized Matchmaking).
Of course, not every reply spiraled into drama. Some players wanted to pay their respects to the skins. @KaviCatastrophe buffaloed, “Magik looking pretty Hot.” And there was @TheTJBizzle, claiming now would be the best time to hail for a “Captain Jamaica” skin. Why not?
Love them or hate them, these Phoenix skins are all about big moves that are ready to shake things up commercially or at least shake up fashion. If you’re here for the flames or here just to complain about matchmaking, one thing’s for sure: Marvel Rivals knows how to keep the conversation going. So, who down for baking in some flames?
Mark the calendar for the 31st, dear readers, for this is the day the world goes fiery-literal. And if you still need convincing, remember: The phoenix force ain’t something you tame. You ride the wave, or you get burned.
