A big mega-leak about new stuff for Marvel Rivals occurred, and, oh god, this summer skin for Punisher is straight mad. Literally from beach mode for a shade of grimdark vengeance and skull tee salesman. The leak was dropped on Twitter from RivalsLeaks, putting out gameplay footage showing Punisher with the new seasonal skin and the Ultimate tech VFX, and players can barely contain their excitement.
It basically turns Frank Castle into a version of himself who is more into summer-time glamping, clad in swim trunks and fancy exposing those lovely tan lines?? And then, in stark contrast to the theme of the Punisher, the Ultimate VFX (visual effects for commoners) are water-themed. Punisher and splashes don’t even sound right while the usual sound is more of bullets and wrath. Oh well, it’s summer; gotta chill with the rest of the world.
This one tweet that only stated, “Gameplay for the new summer Punisher skin and the Ultimate VFX” accompanied with the hashtag #MarvelRivals has made everyone totally go crazy over the video, and the reply section? Oh man, the replies are just all sorts of excitement, confusion, and downright hilarious takes.
One of the first heated debates took place in the reply section over whether the skin was legendary or not. User iiScoutz was like, “Ofc punishers the legendary….” which, yeah, pretty much makes sense with the level of detail we see here. HighKingOf7Seas then responded, “they’re both legendaries,” which may imply there’s another coming too, maybe for another character? But everyone’s focused on Punisher for now.
Then Paulie aka PicknRo11 jumped in with a hilarious statement: “He stole sue legendary skin.” For anyone not super familiar with Marvel, Sue Storm is Invisible Woman from Marvel’s Fantastic Four, so Paulie’s joke is that the Punisher took her spot for a summer skin. It’s hilarious because Sue would probably have a much more fitting summer vibe. Other users then chimed in to say that Sue is indeed getting a skin though, with SomTahn telling everyone, “Sue skin is legendary too Miller Ross confirmed it.” So yeah, they’re both coming, and that is awesome.
Aargh! Best comparison presentation might just be to League of Legends. User obscxnities commented, “This is just pool party graves,” insinuating that the skin for the character Graves from League is just like this. So basically they are giving indications that Marvel Rivals is riding the wave-even more when summer skins exist in many games anyway, so not really that deep. But still, funny observation.
There’s a rather interesting comment about the VFX. LuxNox97 elaborates: “One day we will get actual ability vfx like the skins would be so much cooler if they not only did it for the ultimates. his primary attack being water too would be so dope.” So they’re hoping for even more customization, like changing all the ability effects, not just the Ultimate. But they did praise the Ultimate VFX and sounds, so that’s a positive.
Then there was the cyber warrior complaining about the game’s performance. Karma said, “If my PC wasn’t so shit and this game was better optimized I’d probably sell a part of my kidney for this. It’s that good.” Which, relatable. We’ve all been there with games we wanna play but our hardware just can’t handle it.
Many players are confused about why Punisher is getting a summer skin of all things. Shini2020 pointed out: “Thr man who lost his family to crime and fights crime btw”, which is a fair point-Punisher’s backstory is very tragic, so seeing him in beach mode is a bit ironic. But hey, it’s a game, and people should be allowed to have fun.
Then comes the demand for more characters. Asking for Sue Storm’s skin has been a running joke with Jb_battle yelling “IDGAF WHERE IS SUE” while Arohn7575 joins in asking, “Ok cool now where is invisible girl…?” before getting corrected by GothNorrinRadd on “she hasn’t been called invisible girl since the 70s it’s invisible woman.” So yeah, respect the canon, people.
The leaked content has generated sufficient hype around Marvel Rivals, which are still in active development but drawing in waves of excitement. They appear to be hosting the summer event as a big occasion, with at least two legendary skins punisher and invisible woman; there will possibly be more. From what can be seen, the VFX look flawless and have sparked the debate amongst players on whether they should be dropped for.
The real question here is: will Iron Fist have a speedo skin? Because that was requested by the user MlSERYEMPIRE, and please! I’m now obsessed with that concept. This would be legendary for all the wrong reasons. Anyway, keep an eye out for more leaks, as Marvel Rivals has the makings of being the game that’ll carve the hero shooter scene apart upon release. And if you’re a Punisher fan, shame won’t be able to prepare you for this guy—well, literally—with sunblock and all.
