To celebrate the event, the company agreed to a great streaming campaign of Marvel Rivals with the support of an enormous S5 Livestream Incentive Event where a total of 8,000 game units could be the maximum reward for streamer broadcasts via Twitch. However, while the developers keep on promoting the new streaming campaign, the wave of tech issues affecting the game’s community is a tough situation for everyone involved in the game.
Now, the streaming deal is on. The interface of the Marvel Rivals team through the hashtag #marvelrivalscreation consists of sharing players live on Twitch sharing their most exciting gameplay. Whether you are using Gambit to win your opponent or entering a melee with your team, the team wants it broadcasted. The ultimate reward is 8,000 units, a good amount of money if you happen to like it after all. They have provided registration details on their official link; thus, if you are a streamer willing to earn some money, I believe this is really your time now.
Then again, things get a bit tricky. The developers at NetEase are trying their best to make this streaming event a great success, and at the same time a report from the players indicates that the real game is falling apart. Complaints about technical issues keep posting under the tweet announcing the event like there is no tomorrow. It is as if they have turned the gaming area into a disaster zone.
Player VertzHive took a six-week break and when he returned he found the game “10x more broken than it used to be.” The gamers are asking, what the developers have been doing? The question is indeed valid. Another gamer, Jerk_850, is not able to enjoy a new season because they are “lagging/stuttering all over the map” and thus they are demanding improvements in the server.
There was a cross-progression system which was believed to be one of the most magnificent features? Ironically, it is not working either. Several players reported that the account linking feature simply doesn’t work. Once again, VertzHive had a panic attack when they clicked the ‘link now’ button and nothing happened. They even went so far as to label the developers as ‘genuinely useless’. Well, that is a tough call, but when a basic feature fails, one can certainly empathize with the frustration.
In addition, console players are facing a multitude of issues. Georgeisbasic tested the new Black Widow partnership and the aiming sensitivity was totally messed up according to him. He told it like this: the sensitivity was slowly decreased and then with just a 0.01 adjustment it jumped up very high before crawling again when turned back down. That’s not a good situation. In fact it’s unplayable for a shooting game where very accurate aiming is a must.
Then comes the drama around the ranked mode. Vari_Ares had almost reached the Gold rank before the season end to get two skins and tragedy struck. With the timer showing “ONE HOUR left,” they suddenly got locked out of ranked while being at Silver 1. The player called it a “scam,” which definitely sounds harsh but it is really upsetting to lose rewards because of technical issues.
The performance issues are still coming in from different players. Netherdrift has been affected severely by “unplayable lag” which has made it their team’s fate to lose all the games as it was hitting their whole team. Robinx77 said that “EVERYONE is staying on overwatch” if the frame drops do not get fixed. Likewise, kcole081 also lost placement matches due to “unplayable lag.” So, how can you show your “slick plays” on the stream when the game is not even running properly?
The purchasing system does not seem to be working properly as well. CrespinTay tried to buy a battle pass with tokens and the game “just straight up took my stuff and didn’t give me the tokens.” That’s definitely not good for a game that is trying to convince people to spend their money on it.
There are some players that have talked about character-specific issues. Hero_horror is frustrated at players picking Gambit not knowing how to play him strategically, does so by shouting “He’s not DPS!” which is… Okay, I guess that’s somewhat fair. And AbelKw wants banning of characters in free combat mode, while other players argue against removing penalties altogether.
It is really hard for me to believe that while the core game is surrounded by so many basic functionality issues NetEase is pushing this massive streaming initiative. I mean, how can streamers be able to showcase “chaotic team clashes” when game lagging, stuttering, and non-working cross-progression systems are there? The timing seems to be… very questionable at least.
The community reaction has been pretty consistent in its discontent. From messed-up aiming sensitivity to server lag issues to non-working account linking, the players are stuck in the middle of technical problems on Xbox and other platforms.
