Marvel Rivals has revealed the Season 4 preview streams, and the reactions are anything but uniform. The game’s official Twitter account revealed that a sea of streamers would showcase exclusive gameplay and new season first looks between the hours of 2 and 4 PM PDT on September 5. Meanwhile, the comments section is an absolute warzone.
First, the streamer lineup is either getting some people hyped or has others completely bewildered. Some gamers shout out their favorites; “GURU” is like “These are so much fun. Love being part of the previews. I will be trying to portal bogur off the map.” Sounds down-right chaotic and amazing. People are even giving some picks side-eye. One user actually asked, “Why are emiru and xqc in this when they dont even play the game?” and that’s a very fair point, right? Like, why are they picking streamers who aren’t regular players of Marvel Rivals to actually game through this preview event?
And that really is just the beginning of the drama. Others began calling out the lack of diversity within the streamer lineup, “Lmao so 1 black person? This shit gets more hilarious by the season.” Something that developers really should start paying attention to when setting up these types of influencer events.
Except that is just the beginning of stir-with-VTuber-talk. One voice in rage called out, “that vtuber shit is the stupidest shit imaginable. Can’t even fathom how hideous they gotta be to do that shit,” no doubt a harsh criticism but I guess everyone has got an opinion about these digital avatars.
Still, there’s some good hype as well, with players excited about some of the streamers on the list. There are countless shoutouts for Somjuu with comments like “Somjuu, say less” and “Somjuu is goated,” so this creator definitely has some strong support within the Marvel Rivals community.
After all a balance discussion will inevitably start (clubs play competitive games roll them in): ‘Nerf Spiderman and Captain America!’ cries one player, and ‘Nerf Spiderman and Captain America!’ shout another. These two heroes seem likely to be dominating the meta into Season 4.
There were some really interesting conversations about character roles and design choices. One player commented (perhaps about something from the new season), “Making her a tank is a mistake one you guys have made before she should be a DPS based character with higher health keeping to her core character,” sharing that the community is deeply invested in these design decisions.
Then came the really random but still hilarious comments like the one about Super’s old pic: “My niggas Super’s forehead is fucking insane in that old picture LMAO” – genuinely funny moments like these make for entertaining gaming Twitter, frankly.
Interestingly, the grown-up nerd debate is over whether they’re actually after the ultra-popular streamers or the legitimate experts of Marvel Rivals streaming community. Meanwhile, across another chain, there was an ongoing debate whether the chosen creators are “extremely popular” or if they’re swapping out for “lesser-known streamers” which may actually be a good thing for showcasing dedicated players rather than just big names.”
The event’s good spotting for it is being one for mentions, as someone remarked, “A Tim stream on a Friday?!” which is apparently very unusual for the Tim creator.
Despite mixed feelings being expressed so far, an active hype train about Season 4 is starting to chug down the track. Comments cry out with “I see we are going big for this season” and “Looking forward to surprise guests,” showing that players definitely are invested in what’s coming to Marvel Rivals next.
Everything about a streamer preview has almost turned into a live-service game genre now, yet Marvel Rivals seems to be stirring in conversation more than most—either for or against. Clearly, the community is going to have loud opinions on who should represent their game and what they want to see in the next season.
Whether you hate or love those streamers, one thing is for certain: everyone will be tuned into that first look at Season 4 on September 5. The gameplay reveal and maybe even those balance changes will literally make or break the next season for so many players, so regardless of who’s hosting, all eyes are going to be on that.
Marvel Rivals is one of those few games still regarded as able to draw massive engagement towards them, be it in a positive or negative light, with whichever announcement they make. Season 4 is shaping up to be yet another wild ride for the competitive superhero shooter.
