The famous superhero shooter is all set to bring in new battles, surprises, an entire new chapter, and more, with a huge Season 4.5 update coming on the 10th of October. The update will be followed by a 2-3-hour server maintenance session starting from 9 AM UTC, during which the whole game will pillow in emasculated silence. Konkuri players are urged to stick to the official channel updates for announcements regarding the servers’ return.
Like, the devs made this massive announcement and the community is going insane over what’s coming. New skins; balance changes; and, yes, always those dreaded server downtime for maintenance, as people began to tweet. That’s just a typical maintenance window for one of these large updates, but we gamers go so crazy about losing a few precious hours to play our favorite game.
Fans are going bonkers over the new cosmetics in the comment section. “Finally got a new skin,” says a player while throwing in some crying-face emojis. Meanwhile, some people aren’t really happy with the cosmetic choices.
The Future Foundation skins are brewing some serious drama. T0BI10 feels emotionally torn over the notion of “Reed Richards got the blue/purple chroma” whereas the others in the Fantastic Four got “cool summer skins.” They literally tweeted, “THAT’S NOT FAIR 😠GET THIS MAN A GOOD SKIN.” Honestly? That’s mood.
Spider-Man is a whole different issue. Multiple players are complaining it is essentially just a recolor and they are charging for it. CamponesaSafad4 blatantly said: “Spider man looks like a recolor and its not free.” Seriously, devs, in 2024 you should not be charging for plain recolors.
The Daredevil skin controversy is the juiciest of all. TMundy_15 was compelled to say, “2099 daredevil didn’t look anything like that, why not just give us the suit from the comics,” prompting a whole debate in the replies about comic accuracy versus creative interpretation. Then, DanielLovesArt started his rant about how they “butchered the entire Future Foundation” and it’s “fucked up” to prevent players from getting their favorite comic designs.
Balance changes always are hot topics, leaving the update no exception. JaguarJolly pleads with the developers to not nerf Ultron’s healing: “PLEASE Rivals devs, consider a different way to balance Ultron. Please don’t make his healing weaker, I’m an Ultron lover and a support player.” In contrast, kirbykoopa8 is begging for buffs for Jeff and Ultron, lest they be saddened.
“And v4ldens” is already threatening uninstallation over the Jeff nerf, saying, “we all uninstalled bc of jeff nerf.” Okay, that’s a little bit too dramatic, right? It still does, though, show the passion for their mains.
Every once in a while, some lighthearted requests are thrown in with the complaints, such as Shinjimasuka seeking a “mystery heroes arcade game mode” and PBCandyCat urging the devs to “fix Psylocke’s scarf changing colors with the lighting,” calling it “so bothersome.” Praise the little things.
Then, the hype moments. Nght_Walkr is going wild over the announcement of “Another legendary skin for Psylocke” with a tweet saying, “I’m so fucking happy right now 🤧🤧,” dripping with celebration emojis. Unfortunately, the answer to doom isn’t in the replies.
With respect to the community, the cosmetics appear to be pretty divisive. Some love the new designs and claim they are just butchering classic comic looks. Discussions spill over into accusations about whether particular skins are even new designs or are just simple recolors, argued over pricing, and, of course, eternal balance complaints that appear to follow every single update to a competitive game.
What is really interesting is the detail of the requests themselves: CamponesaSafad4 is already inquiring about ultimate VFX for Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch. That just shows how little things matter to players when it comes to the current cosmetic upgrades.
A server maintenance during this time frame is very standard for a live-service game, but I guarantee there’s going to be that one group of players who’ll whine about not being able to play their favorite game for a mere couple of hours. Like, find something else to do for a bit? Read a book? Touch grass? The game will be back soon enough.
For the most part though, the hype seems to outweigh the complaints. New content is always accepted, even if filled with server downtime and questionable cosmetics. The Marvel Rivals community is as passionate as ever, much ready to get behind those servers again. Just maybe stay off of Twitter during the maintenance window unless you want to witness some very unbridled takes on superhero fashion.
