Great! So Marvel Rivals patch is coming out on 18 September. That spells another splash of changes and enhancements to popular superheroes shoot ’em-ups. The patch comes under the tag 20250918, and the official announcement states it needs no downtime; one can just download it real quick and jump into the action.

The dev gave us an image in which the updates were showcased, but you’ll have to check their official website for the whole changelog. Another example of a “living service” support model, which is almost standard nowadays. But the fandom of Marvel Rivals never shy away from interjecting their thoughts about what should come to the service next.

Yeah… let’s just say it’s been resoundingly adamant. Within a matter of minutes, the comments section transformed into half-suggestion box and half-classic gamer complaints wall.

One player “Oz” had a nutty suggestion: developers ought to begin adding cosmetics as “reskin heroes.” So, Miles Morales and Gwenpool costumes for Spider-Man, War Machine for Iron Man, Captain Carter for Captain America… you know what to infer. Just change their bio, and call it a day. Easy-peasy way to get more characters in the game faster.

That was not well taken by everyone. Another player responded, “12 heroes a year is a lot. Why would we want reskins instead of the actual character being implemented in the game?” And that’s a fair one. Reskins, or even not, I’d want the real thing myself.

But that went off into character discussions. Some people were already on the topic of balance changes. One person outright demanded, “Buff Cap please,” while others wanted Black Panther and Phoenix nerfed but gave a pass to Thor by saying he’s “not even close to the broken level” of those two at least.

Then there’s also the chat issue. Lots of mentions of negativity towards the communication systems. One player wanted to be able to disable squad chat outright, while another dropped a complaint that the patch notes say, “Removed squad text when solo queuing,” but it still defaults to squad chat first, which is actually really annoying when everyone else is already on mics.

Console players didn’t go spared by the complaining either. One Xbox player spoke about the accolade selection screen under the rumble name only lets you pick two instead of three options to display on your stats page. Little quality of life things that would matter to you more than you’d think when grinding on a daily basis.

Noticed by Luna Snow mains: after her ultimate was shortened with the previous patch, her summer skin animation became desynced, so she basically does weird dancing on air during her ultimate. Tagging an actual developer to come fix it.

Then came the usual complaints of “remove this mode from quick play,” one specifically calling out Resource Rumble, in addition to the inevitable “worst hero in the game” unary comment about at least one (never specifying which, classic vague complaining).

The funny part about it is viewing how invested people are into this game’s future. One player actually threw out a new take that this might be “the only game most characters will ever get for a long time” for many of these Marvel characters, putting heavy pressure on devs to do those characters justice.

The patch dropping on the 18th is all nice and cool, and there’s no downtime-is always a boon-but the real focus lies on how far the community is already looking ahead. More characters are wanted; better balancing is needed; communication systems should be fixed, and those little visual bugs that break the immersion need contradictions.

Marvel Rivals has built this seriously crazy dedicated player base that cares deeply about the studio’s direction. They’re not passively consuming content but are actively discussing character implementation strategies and suggesting system improvements. That sort of engagement is rare and actually awesome to watch-if only it were free of classic gamer salt.

So, yeah, new patch coming September 18. But the real work started in the comments section, already brooding over what will come next for Marvel Rivals, whether the devs even asked for it or not. Gotta love these gaming communities; the moment an update drops, they’re all ready for the next already.
