If you want to call it the biggest news setter since the whole community was talking about it, this would be an acceptable name. Honestly, hey, it’s about time. A Random Costume Rotation is being implemented by the devs that will pour a lot of beauty with a little bit of madness onto the aesthetic of contention matches starting September 12. Random Costume Rotation is a bit different with the outfits worn by that player hero picked from the player’s own collection. So maybe for once, you won’t be sitting there with that default skin for the next 50 matches.
Alright, let’s hype it up. We need to dissect what has been happening here. The tweet from the official Marvel Rivals accounts revealed that they were finally listening to player feedback. This one has apparently been requested by players since season 0. @kaledlgm1 just said, “Finally! I’ve been wanting this since season 0,” with a couple of crying emojis. So you know it’s true.
This gotta be the catch, as ever, with any live service game, right? The new costume feature is being celebrated everywhere, but the replies are loaded with reports of game-breaking bugs. You know, the kind that swap controller buttons MID-MATCH in ranked games! Reports coming from multiple players-well @BIGDAVE55 was like “What’s up with the controller buttons being flipped in ranked!?!? wtf bug is this!?!?,” and we all honestly can echo that sentiment.
And it looks like it affects multiple characters as well- @DraytoesGames described how their binds flipped playing ranked as Invisible Woman, and their Controller Natalie’s ult ended after about 2 seconds without her even dying? That’s just dirty. @MVStarite had the same thing that happened with Hela where their snare and flight buttons got swapped. Try to clutch a ranked game and suddenly you can’t- nightmare fuel.
And it’s IF and only IF controller issues-@Hulhulito reporting their bumper buttons are swapped on every character they haven’t set custom controls for and no reply from support yet. @TylerNelsont cannot ascend with the left trigger while flying with any character even though it is binded properly. This is basic, fundamental control scheme stuff that should really be working properly by now.
Next, @LukaLaker is complaining that the arcade mode stats are counting towards real stats-“WHY DO ARCADE MODE STATS COUNT TOWARD YOUR REAL STATS???? SO STUPID”-which is, honestly, whack. Arcade should just be for fun and practice and definitely not interfere with your main stats.
Every other day, the wish for cross-progression keep pouring in-@HappyVideogamer, and @1nfinit3xo bumping about wanting their progress across platforms. @1nfinit3xo also pinpoints, “Can’t spice up which platform you play on thought bc there’s no cross-progression!” which is, honestly, a fair point.
Character requests still keep coming-“@RealVukester is on day #268 of asking for White Tiger Ava Ayala to be added.” Talk about dedication. @MarineSupremacy is begging the devs to “keep Rogue and Gambit sacred as the series canon originally is” and not put Magneto triangle in season 5. Character requests just continue to keep on coming.
Balance complaints are being considered; Scarlet Witch needs to be removed “for being the most useless and weakest character now” according to @MarufKng who proceeded to send laughing emojis. @Alex_MaGanda makes requests for DPS missions to be removed as they don’t want to, “be forced to throw games bc in doing missions…” which is a legitimate point on how the way missions affect the gameplay.
Map situation is being considered, too- @Fn_shore asks, “No new Maps this season at the start?” with @MSherpiny replying back now that we will get new ones in two weeks, so there is at least something nice to look forward to.
But anyways now-the random costume rotation really is a nice thing and is probably how some quality-of-life requests come from the devs. @ephen__ said, “This is actually cool,” to which @tkbread_ replied with “IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ðŸ˜,” so some good vibes are around amidst all the bug reports.
Basically, this cycles your owned costumes randomly so you can show off your collection without having to bother picking an outfit by hand every single match. These little things make a game feel very polished and very player-friendly. Even @AbaddonHale wants them to do this for game modes, so we end up with Mystery Heroes like in Overwatch.
Speaking about monetization, it looks like @LowProPat might have had some complaints about prices (though that reply was deleted), while @AtomCatZeke responded with, “you don’t play it if you don’t have skins,” which… yeah, alright. @Komo_Eric told someone to “stay poor & keep playing for free…” which is a bit harsh but you know, gaming Twitter, etc.
September 12th UTC to be marked on calendars if random costume rotation isn’t the thing you want to see after seeing the same outfit day-in, day-out. Hopefully, we could look forward to devs fixing those controller bugs and a plethora of other issues beforehand because new cosmetics are nice, but actually being able to control your character is kind of the big deal.
Going at this with gigantic-project-still-growing-pains status, Marvel Rivals really is a rad and unexploited big opportunity across all potentialities. It is so clear that the community is passionate-the mingling of excitement over new features and frustration with current bugs clearly reflects the whole lot caring enough to continue playing and giving feedback. Here’s hoping that the costume rotation act is just the beginning of all those quality-of-life improvements in this game.
