The Marvel Rivals is taking a stance in the issue of cleanliness, going to keep it REALLY clean. The developers stated: “Starting with Season 3.5, voice chat will be nova-metricly non-toxic behavior, more quickly than even Spider-Man in dodging a punch.” That’s correct; guys. You can no longer hide behind your mics and spew nonsense: Big Brother will be there, silently, with that ban hammer in hand.
An official announcement was made via a tweet: The game is committed to being “a safe and friendly place for everyone.” I believe that the time has come. Online gaming, really, has no nation, instead of Cowboys throwing random slurs as if they’re in a competition. But now, the game’s AI will watch for toxic behavior before, anti-toxicity first, in voice chat, issuing penalties against offenders. No more waiting for the paper report. It is real-time.
It was always expected to see mixed reactions toward to this… On one hand, people were glad; @GirasolPeruana wrote, “Finally awful people is gonna get what they deserves.” Meanwhile, others were skeptical; @ThatRevenantGuy cautioned, “If it’s the same as Call of Duty’s bot censorship, then you’re gonna be banning people for calling themselves a nobhead, or swearing when they die.”
Then, the people uninterested in the anti-toxicity update demanded a quick fixing for other issues: @el_cut said quite plainly, “Fix ur horrible Matchmaking, then i be back to play.” Rounding this out, @Havertzera29 sent: “You wouldn’t have half these people if you didn’t implement EOMM you bunch of muppets!” (In case you don’t know, EOMM stands for Engagement Optimized Matchmaking, which some players say rigs matches to keep people playing longer instead of fairly matchmaking them.)
But, in fact, toxicities found inside online games are outright annoying and are somewhat trouble for some people to continue their existence. @SherbertSheep shared a chilling experience: “Had someone last time I played who was throwing hard r and other slurs saying if we had anyone who was black on our team he’d throw.” So… Yicks! That sort of nonsense is exactly what the new system is set to target.
Then, a few argue the contrary: @Keipermike86 added to the whole “targeting of specific groups” debate, “Women, and gay people, are some of the most ruthless people I’ve ever met when it comes to insults.” Meanwhile, @bloodtractor proceeded to troll anyone actually caring about the update, “are your wittle feelings hurt???? awwwwww.” Classy.
Then works he brought about: An act of randomness from @Rai__YT talking about “bring the game to nintendo switch 2.” Sir, this is a toxicity discussion.
So, a giantfooted move is actually in the making. I wonder if that’ll work: maybe; will someone get banned for harmless trash-talking: possibly; in reality, voice chat anarchy may be finally seeing its sunset.
And if you’re the kind that likes to scream slurs at your mic, consider this your warning. The AI is coming. And it won’t give you an ounce of sympathy for your excuses.
