A marketing announcement was dropped by Marvel Rivals with grand hype for Hellfire Gala, the second season of their Championships, MRC S2. And normally, an announcement such as this one would have seen some kind of pyrotechnic display. The tweet from the official account said that players would be fighting tooth and nail and showing skilled gameplay to bask in glory. But who has the time? Players are busy complaining about the destructor that is the matchmaking.
Sign-ups are happening until June 7. But scrolling through the replies is a massacre whereby every player is threatening you with complaints rather than controllers. One angry user, @ALAXASAX, went on: “Fix your stupid ass matchmaking it sucks pls we just wanna play and have fun it is NOT fun now every game there is a huge team diff.” And I ask you—is that the polite way?
The biggest grievance? The matchmaking system, or shall we say, the lack thereof. The players speak of unbalanced instances where bronze-ranker players are pitted against diamonds and grandmasters. @ungabunga694200 summed it quite nicely: “Why I got a whole team of bronze players and the other team is stacked? What the fuck is this bullshitðŸ˜come on man.” And quite frankly, it’s not just quick play either—ranked just as much grave. The horror shared by @Sirdaveon is: “Played a ranked game last night with a 6 stack and played against 5 diamonds and 1 gm…I’m in Celestial with 5 gms.” Yikes.
The discussion about EOMM is there too. For those who are not deep into gaming jargon, EOMM is a system for influencing player matches to keep the players around; this ranges up to rigging difficulty levels to manipulating how long the players play. @ChrisJ533293914 openly declared: “You have the most rigged eomm awful matchmaking of any game made, like ever.” The aftermath? The players are fleeing in hordes. Steam and Twitch charts reflect a downward trend more rapid than no-registration headshots (one other concern from the fans).
The time for rewarding the players has come for some criticism also. The chrono shield cards, which are supposed to keep lower-ranked players from losing points, are also being reviewed. @McGnarly6669 went on to say: “Get rid of the chrono shield cards even for low ranks, dogshit system.” Soon after, @TheWizardsRoom suggested an even simpler idea: “Instead of chrono cards, just make the skin available after 25 ranked matches.”
Then there’s the crashing… Short and loud was @RockeetBaby’s glum cry: “You guys need to fix the crashing.” @HaultyyyOW matched the energy by comparing Marvel Rivals’s no-registration hits (when attacks don’t register) to Overwatch’s flawless hit detection: “I’ve never gotten a no reg on Overwatch. I get at least 20 per match…20 potential kills & game-changing kills.”
Now, so as to say while Marvel Rivals is turning up the excitement for Hellfire Gala, the community still finds itself deeply entrenched in matchmaking hell. Will the developers hear? One cannot say. But from what the replies suggest, they better hurry up so that the community doesn’t fade away, like Liar’s Gala.
Good luck is what you will need if you even think about being brave enough to register for MRC S2.
