EA Sports just went through the mad act of rating all six long snappers for Madden NFL 26 for the very first time and let me say … there are SPERS standing on end. Posting that on Twitter, the announcement had gamers erupting on whether they like the idea or felt like it was such an insult. Did anyone out there even think long snappers did have ratings?
The tweet was uncomplicated: a graphic of the Top 10 long snappers for Madden 26 with the caption “Madden NFL’s first ever Long Snapper Top 10!” But the replies! Oh, what a mess! Some were going berserk with excitement; others were furious their man was not in the Top 10; and some just wondered why EA even bothered.
Titan fans famously complained that Morgan Cox should have made the list. @Titanfan86 blamed EA: “Madden shitting on the Titans every chance they get lol. Can’t even give us a decently rated long snapper, Morgan Cox should absolutely be on here.” And I mean really, if you go ahead and do long snapper rankings, you might as well put the best in it.
But it wasn’t just Titans fans. @MaHomeBoy816 demanded some for James Winchester while @DenairNYC called this whole thing “the dumbest thing to rate in the history of video gaming!” Harsh? Probably. But funny at the same time.
Yet, some gamers saw the potential. @Iam_Jaja asked the right question: “I’m interested to see how the ratings for Long Snappers affect gameplay for kicks and punts.” Because yeah, if a long snapper … low rating does that mean he is going to yeet the ball over the punters head? @TheFinnFTW says yes, joking, “So if a long snapper is bad, can we expect them to just yeet it over the punters head? 😂”
And, Chargers fans were flexing hard because, lo and behold, their guy @andrewdepaola made the list, only to be dunked on by @jherbo1028, “How much help does Herbert need😂😂? He has the BEST long snapper and still can’t win?😂😂.” Ouch.
The real MVP in the reply section, however—@PineappleSwae stated, “Need a long snapper in the 99 club.” Because why NOT place a long snapper alongside Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Donald in the elite club?
At the end of the day, whether you love it or hate it: this EA move is definitely… something. That means a dive into realism on one hand and a complete waste of time on the other, depending on whom you ask. One thing’s for sure, though: the whole Madden community will be debating this Long Snapper drama for quite a lot of time.
So what’s next? Are we going to get a full rundown on long snapper mechanics in Madden 26? Will we see a Long Snapper of the Year award in Franchise Mode? Time will tell. In the meantime, though, let’s take solace that these underappreciated warriors, the long snappers, have been brought to light by EA-win or lose from here.
And if this long snapper debate doesn’t keep us entertained, nothing ever will.
