For the last couple of weeks, Fortnite players have gotten to use Lightsabers during Battle Royale matches, and some players are ready to see them go. Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, brought Lightsabers into the game late December as part of the Fortnite X Star Wars promo event.

Players have been able to find and wield Lightsabers while playing on the Battle Royale map, and since December 20th, there have been mixed reviews about the weapon.

With Lightsabers, gamers can slice and dice opponents as well as block bullets. Some players have found the mechanics great, and some have been quite annoyed by it.

The pros: gamers can use Lightsabers in Fortnite! That is awesome. Playing with limited-time content is a staple of Fortnite and having fun with the “force” was a welcomed experience.

The cons: Lightsabers are somewhat overpowered, especially if there is a squad playing together and attacking a smaller group of players.

Using Lightsabers have offered exciting moments for some gamers, and others, the complete opposite. Watch this video of Twitch streamer Nickmercs and friends ambush a player as a gang of Fortnite Jedis.

That was great for Nickmercs squad, but the enemy player didn’t stand a chance.

The debate about Lightsabers has raged on through game chat as well as social media channels, and the community is split on whether the Lightsaber experience is positive or negative.

Well, whether players enjoyed using this weapon or not, it looks like it’ll be taken out of the game by January 7th.

HYPEX, a well known Fortnite content leaker, revealed that the expiration date on Lightsabers is drawing nearer:

It looks like they will be taken out of the game on January 7th, which makes sense. Fortnite typically keeps limited-time content like Lightsabers in the game for only a few weeks.

Epic Games hasn’t officially announced the timeline, but HYPEX has been considerably accurate on all things Fortnite.

Lightsabers were brought in for the Fortnite X Star Wars event to celebrate the release and help promote Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Just like the Lightsabers, the movie has been hit with mixed reviews as well. As of this writing, the film has a 6.9 out of 10 on IMDB, 54 percent on Metacritic, and 54 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

These are not stellar ratings, so hopefully, if Star Wars fans were disappointed in the movie, they at least got to enjoy the Jedi-like action in Fortnite!
