Lara Croft and the Guardian of Over 15 Years On Light have been treated with utmost grandeur by gamer society. The news went around and the official Tomb Raider Twitter feed joined in by reminding everyone of the one-of-a-kind co-op gameplay and the search for the enigmatic “Mirror of Smoke.” While this wave of reminiscences washes over the masses, there’s just one thing players clamor for now: ports and remasters of the modern age.
Any kind of reimagination of the Tomb Raider formula, the game, which made its debut in 2010, was all about breaking the chains of the usual solo Tomb Raider adventure for co-op fun, allowing players to run around with Lara and the Mayan warrior Totec. It turned out to be highly praised for puzzles, combat, and dynamic duo gameplay, the only problem being that it is stuck in the past.
Fans flooded the replies with requests for updated versions. @MrLitstar expressed the wish for a remaster that had the AI partners fill in for solo players who want the co-op feel. @Mariano49815641 called for more spin-offs like Guardian of Light because they’re a “joy to play.” The largest request, however, is to get the game and Temple of Osiris onto modern consoles.
Several replies are just straight PS4/PS5 port requests with trophy support, like the one by @AdamDawson01 and @KubaCodex. And it’s not just Guardian of Light people want getting the same treatment, they want Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Underworld as well. @gimmethatgg even countered by saying, well, if Angel of Darkness got a remaster then what about these?
Then we have the status of Temple of Osiris, broken for years on PS4. There are pleas from @NateTheCroft and @DudeKyleRaider to fix it, while @brendanlovesu1 specifies that it’s been broken for ages. What a mess, and the fanbase is running out of patience.
And here comes a pour of personal spoons: @VascoSilva92 spoke about playing the game for the first time at 18, fresh out of school. @starrituals then shared a little of the magic of playing with family. That is the thing about Guardian of Light: it’s more than a game for many; it’s a memory.
What now? No announcements whatsoever of remasters or ports have come forth from Crystal Dynamics, but how can anyone ignore this demand? The Tomb Raider series is very much loved as of late, right from the Survivor trilogy all through to the upcoming Netflix anime. Maybe it’s time to cast some limelight on these spin-offs too.
Until then, whatever sort of enchantment there is to be remade is still trapped somewhere on a couple of platforms. But man, everyone wants another round. Better looks, better controls, and of course trophies. Hopefully, the next anniversary is going to offer more than just an excuse for reminiscing.
Hey! If you never played it, now is a good time. You can thank us later when you’re demanding a remaster.
