Kuukiyomi: Consider It!, a Japanese game that requires “reading the room,” is now available in English. The game has been updated with a free language patch in English. Japanese, Chinese, and Korean language patches were previously made available.
G-Mode’s game is currently available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for less than $5.
Kuukiyomi: Consider It! was initially released on mobile devices in 2008. Since it’s release, it has been featured on Japanese tv shows and more. More than 10 million people have experienced the game since its launch.
One of the gameplay videos for the game has released over 20 million views on YouTube, which has made it quite popular with streamers and Vtubers.
The premise behind Kuukiyomi: Consider It! seems simple but is more complicated than it appears. Players have to spot the person in red on the screen. Different scenarios will have the player read the room to make the right decisions.
Kuukiyomi: Consider It! is a casual game with several short mini-games. While the games are simple to complete, there is more than one way to play each level. Players can make all the right decisions, then see what happens when they misread the room.
The game also features a variety of simple line art characters. The animations themselves are almost as amusing as the minigames players must complete.
English-speakers simply have to update their existing games to play the title in English. The benefit of allowing access to an English version is that Japanese gamers can use the game as English language reading practice. Japanese gamers will need to update their game and then set the language to their Nintendo Switch to “English.”
G-Mode displayed screenshots of the game in English. One scenario shows the player sitting in the middle of an empty space when a couple approaches. The player has to decide if they want to move so the couple can sit together or remain still.
The game is playable for up to two players locally and is rated as an “All Ages” game.
English speakers may find some of the situations unusual because they are based on Japanese culture, rather than where the player is located.
Kuukiyomi: Consider It! is available now as a digital-only download on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
