Konami has released a new creature spotlight for the upcoming Silent Hill f, and fans have completely gone crazy for Oi-omoi. The official tweet asks whether players will “succumb to the madness or embrace the beauty hidden within terror,” which, strangely enough, almost sounds deep for a horror game. But the real story here is the drama surrounding the forum discussions post revealing.
So, one of the monsters has been revealed way before the release of Silent Hill f by Konami. For those that have been pre-warned, that in truth, is something that not everyone is happy about. Mingo, in opposition, stated, “Why spoil your own monsters???? The whole point of the game is to see them for the first time.” Which I think, honestly, is a fair point. There is another kind of value in seeing nightmare fuel creatures alone for the first time while playing.
Several other gamers state that this is just normal procedure for the franchise. Francisco Relaño Peña resurfaced some trailers from the beginning of the century to show how Konami has been doing that for decades before the new millennium came to this land. He dropped links of old TGS footage that unveiled almost all of the story beats and creatures that would appear in Silent Hill 2 before release. So, I guess the lesson here is – Konami gonna Konami.
The creature itself, Oi-omoi, looked terrifying in that particular Silent Hill manner. Shiori Novella of hololive EN caught some rather fascinating neck details and remarked, “That is so cool. The neck details.” Yeah, in those gorgeous ways, it’s a ridiculous body horror that Silent Hill endorses. ashykitten_ came in with a “body horror is my weakness, i love it,” to which I might just agree with.
Things get a lot weirder when people started speculating on what the “f” in Silent Hill f actually meant. BaffledCentrist dropped this: “It’s not 100%, but the developers make allusions to the feminist movement of the 60s in Japan.” Which, alright – that’s one perspective. Bruno Malta chimed in with: “If it means feminism, I’m also out” which… Wow. Just wow. The conversation turned really messy after that, with many either confused or pissed off about the entire feminism angle.
Other gamers are just excited about the monster designs themselves. “I’ve been digging through the bits of concept art they’ve released for this game so far,” said Kaizen, “and the monster designs are so cool…” which definitely seems like the predominant reaction among genuine Silent Hill fans.
Then you actually get into the very legit practical questions, such as whether the game will bother fighting to run on people’s rigs. horace0816 says, “I don’t expect much, I just hope Windows 10 can run normally😒”, mood. Then comes Chito with, “Idk bro but I’ll pirate your game.”
Later on come the more legit questions about whether the game will even run on people’s rigs. horace0816 says, “I don’t expect much, I just hope Windows 10 can run normally😒” mood. This got Chito saying, “Idk bro but I’ll pirate your game.” Good times.
Oi-omoi names are starting to be associated with other properties – AntonConstanti said that Oi-omoi, “reminds me of Gimmick Puppet from YuGiOh!”, asking if we can get a Silent Hill deck for Master Duel. I want to support that motion.
Reactions span from “Oh scary :o” to “What the actual f 😂”, interspersed with calls for review copies and GeForce NOW support, classic style from the gaming community: a chaotic blend of hype, critiques, confusion, and good ol’ memes.
An interesting divide surfaces as far as marketing goes. Half feel the early monster reveal kills the surprise, while the other half is foaming at the mouth about all the little details. Then out of nowhere the feminist debate pops up, which is quite bizarre. Silent Hill games have touched pretty deep psychological themes before, so it’s not far-fetched for the series to even partially explore feminist stuff, but man, that got everyone talking.
Silent Hill f seems to be continuing the series’ traditionally deeply disturbing creature designs. Whether you are hype about some feminist stuff or you are just here for the genuinely creepy monsters, Konami already has everyone’s attention. It’s still missing a release date but judging from the reaction, everyone will be keeping a very close eye out on the next step, but maybe do not engage in the feminist debates in the comments unless chaos is your thing.
