Alright, gamers: seat belts on, because this pink puffball makes a huge comeback this week. Nintendo has just released another hype trailer, essentially a Kirby dance break trailer because really, does one need a reason for that? Officially, Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World will be released on Thursday, August 28. Yeah, I know, quite a mouthful, but that’s definitely Kirby.
So, what’s on offer to spoil our appetites? Essentially, this is the whole Forgotten Land experience, but it’s optimized for the Switch 2 hardware. Apparently, some people who responded to the tweet seem pretty excited about the technical improvements. One user called Jackpot just confirmed, “The NS1 version was half the framerate,” which means … oof. 60 frames per second smoothness is huge for a game of this kind, which is just about precision platforming and sucking enemies. Another reply from JRMAZ discussed value: “$20, 60fps, better graphics and image quality, and the new expansion.” Seems like a pretty good deal for an upgrade, really.
Then there is more! The Star-Crossed World expansion will be the centerpiece, featuring cute star creatures many players have likened to Lumas from Mario Galaxy. Carlos Arévalo tweeted, “This expansion is gonna introduce basically the equivalent of Lumas in Kirby, and I love it for that!” Honestly, I am already looking forward to digging deeper into it. So, how long is this new content? Well, P.J. Devaney straight out asked Nintendo, “How long is star crossed world supposed to be?” but hasn’t gotten an answer yet. As usual, Nintendo is keeping it mysterious.
Though there are a few negatives, most are positive. Rob from Ruleof2Review clapped: “I haven’t played the original game since beating it back when it released. Stoked to boot up the DLC on my Switch 2.” Crazy Kazzy answered, calling “It’s my favorite Kirby game,”, which really is saying something considering just how many Kirby games are out there. Another player, Rob Brunello, looks at the weekend with a packed schedule: “My weekend gonna be full between this and Delta Snake Eater!” Gaming marathon, for sure.
The replies have gotten some cool discussion going. One user wonders if player two is still forced to be Bandana Dee (which looks to be true). Then there’s an entire thread about Meta Knight, with Ash asking if he’s secretly Kirby’s dad because “they obviously look like the exact same species,” which… is a pretty valid point. Apparently, Kirby lore runs very deep.
Not really infatuated with the game. Digby11082012 began the argument, “Looks the same as the switch 1 version,” starting a dispute about the actual upgrades in the visuals. And Jackpot, who seems like a guy worth listening to, said he’s already behind on Switch 2 games and might wait until next month to pick this up because he’s focused on the new Mario Party first. Priorities, man!
The timing is kind of interesting, too, given that it’s launching just at the end of August with everyone trying to squeeze in their last summer gaming sessions before fall releases. $20 for the upgrade if you have the original? Really great price for a next-gen upgrade, we must say.
What is really pretty exciting is the fact that there are so many people who plan to replay the whole game with all its enhancements. Crazy Kazzy said: “I 100% it at launch and will probably do it over again with this new version.” Now that is the sign of greatness: big-name million-dollar games with people willing enough to go through the whole experience again for technical improvements and additional content.
Oh, the buzz is loud, truly loud! From people calling the starries “so damn cute” to others then locking their schedule on Thursday, this is one of the kinds of enhanced and polished re-releases that Switch 2 owners have been crying out for. The new expansion appears to pack a ton of new content, so it’s not a straight port.
Nintendo is setting these Switch 2 capabilities on full display, and if the response from the tweet is anything to go by, gamers are ready to dive headfirst into The Forgotten Land. So cute, yet begin serious business this Thursday with Kirby. Pre-orders are live now, so if you want to jump on this hoodoo magic right at launch, better get to it. Just sayin’, your weekend plans might wanna factor in some pink puffball time.
