The world has become a little shaken following Nintendo’s controversial announcement that one of the company’s oldest low-carb Pluth characters shall return in Kirby And The Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, along with a brand-new Star-Crossed World expansion. Launching on the 28th of August, this would be an upgraded edition to bring in new content and new gameplay for an already beloved platformer. For whatever reason, other than the Switch 2 exclusivity standpoint, others just couldn’t see the reasoning, and the reactions? Just absolute madhouse.
Well then-let’s fit the facts we have together. The original Kirby And The Forgotten Land was an insane hit on the Switch and was part revival of the old Kirby magic, part open world exploration. Now with the Switch 2 version-this is not just going to be a port-it will also have its own brand new area called Star-Crossed World, of which very little information is known at the present time. It is also to be released with a trailer displaying slick visuals, with speculations already circling about performance upgrades like 60fps support. An excited player, @Lorob_4, outright said it should be faster frame rates (probably 60fps). Probably so.
Here come the nasty parts. Here are some of those upset reactions from Switch 1 owners feeling left out. @BLINXERIZER spat out: “Don’t get why this couldn’t have released as DLC for the Switch 1 version if you don’t have Switch 2.” Oof. Then, @viaestra reaffirmed that they thought that Nintendo waited way too long to release this content, given that the first came out a couple of years ago. A very valid point-would anyone need to wait if they have in their hand already?
Then, all the questions from pricing start. Some players like a certain other user @Xayvy_ actually pointed out that it might be the best option to get the used Switch 1 version for less cash, then buy this upgrade. But then others like @RealWestGames kept on pondering, “How does this have like 5x the amount of stuff than jamboree tv but is the same price?” I will never understand Nintendo’s pricing.
Of course, the actual news hardly drove people mad. The Kirby fanboys immediately showed up. @socialplugio exclaimed, “Can’t wait to puff again,” with @gamecubefreak33 mulling over a replay before the content lands. Not to mention, @xCKx_MightyRay is beside themselves with happiness since the release falls on their birthday; that’s one heck of an unexpected present.
And the real fireworks commence with a Switch 2 versus Steam Deck exchange in the comments. @PamonhaDiPira disscongratulatory to the Steam Deck fanboys that Switch 2 was able to outsell the handheld PC “in a single [day].” On the other hand, @DarklingGaymer admitted to loving theirs, but feel the Steam Deck is feeling “outdated” next to the might of Switch 2. Console wars just never work.
There was an out-of-place plea for Portuguese localization from @geudb16 (“Por favor @thetruebowser nos queremos portugues 🙏🇧🇷”). Are you hearing this, Nintendo?
However, what would be the final verdict? Kirby is back, the new content looks promising, and the Switch 2 upgrade could be worthy if you’re into against performance. But the exclusivity will sting for the old Switch 1 fans, and then the price? Boy, that’s going to be discussed for hours until launch day. You better circle August 28 on your calendar-either one for hype train or skepticism station, and either way, Kirby is coming in hot!
