The small trophy emoji that Insomniac Games just shared through their social media seems to be a significant matter. Marvel’s Wolverine for PS5, a game that was teased only once, has recently been granted the title of ‘Most Anticipated Game’ for 2026. Yes, 2026. It’s two complete years away, but the hype is already pushing full throttle. The creators conveyed their thanks via a tweet that read, “We are really excited to show you more of the game next year!” and a sparkling award logo.
The game is announced but what the gamers are expressing in the comments is still the main plot. And trust me, it’s a mixed bag, from utter thrill to envious disbelief and even GTA 6 comparisons scattered in between.
To begin with, you should at least somewhat feel for the developers. They want to shout about their victory, but the first wave of comments is mostly about users comparing other games to them and shouting at them. “Voted by who?!?!?!? Everyone knows GTA6 is the most anticipated game next year…” was the comment from Andrew, one gamer, that expressed a very typical sentiment.
Another user, Moss, quite openly announced: “Lol no way this game is more anticipated than GTA6.” It’s like a never-ending argument, isn’t it? Can two greatly awaited things coexist at the same time? Apparently, the online users do not agree. Some posts even doubted the delay of GTA 6. One user replied to the skeptic, “It won’t tho RDR2 was the same thing and it dropped after the second delay.” So, the shadow of Rockstar’s new game is very long indeed.
Meanwhile, the focus has changed from rivalry to real excitement among the players. “Studio gives it to them. Big up the team,” was a comment from TheAntisocial Gamer which contributed to some much-needed positivity. Another supporter, Shade, even said that “Marvel’s Wolverine is gonna feel like Marvel’s Spider-Man of 2025 and I can’t WAIT FOR IT 🔥”. That’s pretty much the dream, right? Just to capture that same magic but with adamantium claws and a lot more berserker rage? The industry does have a staunch believer in Insomniac’s capacity to deliver a blockbuster game, which is evident from a simple, excited comment like “Really looking forward to it” made by Tom Musgrove.
On the flip side—this is a considerable ‘but’—the trust mentioned earlier is not everywhere. Spider-Man 2, notwithstanding all its adornment, left a portion of the gamers feeling a bit let down and this, of course, shows in their view of Wolverine as a sequel. “After Spider-Man 2 being such a disappointment I’ll keep my expectations low,” was D.W. Henchman’s comment.
Another user, silenceisloud69, was even more blunt: “I had too much faith in spider man 2…. I’m waiting for reviews this time.” Ouch! This has to be painful for the team, but it is a very understandable emotion. It then turned to the… particular criticisms. “Wish you hadn’t made me so ugly in spiderman 2,” one user remarked, which, okay, that’s a new one. Personal, yet okay.
Before too long, the discussions were centered around very specific things that people don’t want to see. The phrase “Sweet Baby Inc” was thrown around a lot as people were complaining about the PlayStation studio’s potential direction. Meanwhile, on another platform like Xbox Game Pass, the conversation is entirely different.
