Insomniac Games really made a big deal with their reminder for Marvel’s Wolverine, which only made gamers want to be informed about the future PlayStation exclusive in the PlayStation Store. The straightforward announcement, however, caused the console war once more, while Xbox and PlayStation fans were going totally crazy in the comment section and there was a fight of gamers among themselves over platform exclusives everywhere in the discussion. Besides a link to the wishlist page, the tweet also shared some media content, but what was really striking was that the main attraction was to witness the different platform users arguing.
So, in fact, what Insomniac’s official account did was tweet the link to PlayStation Store saying, “don’t miss out.” But soon after, the replies became a total mess. There was even a conversation among users like xboxonefa and faizal_moh68218, who literally threw at each other the hardest of comebacks. One part called the game “trash” and mocked PlayStation, while the other responded with “Xbot” insults and laughter emojis. Was it a digital playground fight with grown-ups? Honestly, the heat was just a little too much for me.
Adding to the fun were the comment translations from other languages – FranckSimon1707 for example, said in French “Can’t wait to see more about this game. Anyway, without bad puns, it’s true that it seriously cuts compared to the studio’s old productions haha” which indeed was a good pun with Wolverine’s claws and all that. But then there was a guy like DowaHawkiin who simply replied “Yeah, I’m missing out on Wolverine. Remind me when you shift from Marvel to Ratchet & Clank” which ouch, that’s a very strong preference for a franchise indeed.
The whole console war thing got so heated that users were actually screenshotting each other’s Discord notifications and phone types just to further insult their opponents. For example, sFiivee said to xboxonefa, “You have 6 Discord notifications on a droid” which he referred to it as a kind of burn?? And then xboxonefa talked back about someone’s mom being fond of their Steam account? It was very chaotic and honestly, it was kind of pathetic but also funny to see it happen.
There were sincere questions and suggestions from players who are really looking forward to the game amongst all the fighting. Benjamin Milkman directly asked Insomniac to “Add multiplayer with dead pool or x23,” which is actually a very good idea, not gonna lie. And then there was notoriously sleepy who was indicating that he/she/they “lives up to the hype I am building in my heart for it,” while at the same time being bothered by loot boxes and microtransactions, which is a reasonable concern considering the current situation in gaming.
The whole Sweet Baby Inc. mess even came up in the replies, with DarthZeus81 and brid42249 debating about the consulting company. One user claimed they “closed down more game studios than EA” which sounds like an enormous exaggeration but then again, Twitter gonna Twitter. While Jeselle Favor was concerned about character models saying, “Your Jean Grey character model looks like she’s addicted to some substance. Don’t let her be Junkie Grey please,” which is such a precise complaint that it even made me laugh.
It is indeed fascinating that this one wishlist reminder tweet managed to bring to the surface every single possible tension in the gaming communities. Platform wars, developer drama, character design complaints, feature requests – all of these are right there simmering in the replies. And through it all, Insomniac is just quietly sitting there like “hey don’t forget to wishlist our game” while complete chaos breaks out around them.
Sinbad incluso comentó que “algunos [revelos] durante game awards” era su expectativa, which, yes, that would be the most appropriate moment for a proper gameplay reveal or release date announcement. The very fact that people are already speculating about when we will be able to see more indicates that the hype train is indeed leaving the station, console war – no matter what, be damned.
It is indeed hilarious how a simple “wishlist for our game” tweet can turn into this massive battlefield where every gaming issue and platform loyalty test gets exposed. However, at least it’s good that people are discussing it, right? The engagement numbers must be through the roof, even if half of the comments are just users arguing about which plastic box is superior. Marvel’s Wolverine is becoming one of those games that everyone has an opinion about, whether they are going to play it or not. And to tell the truth, that level of buzz is probably exactly what Insomniac and PlayStation were counting on when they dropped this reminder.
