Headed to the villainous streets of Twitter one fine day, Insomniac decided to hit people with the casual, “Hey guys, what’s up” before dropping a link for their playthrough of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on Twitch. And honestly, good for them-the game is great-but in the reply section, all you hear are whimpers begging for Wolverine. Literally nonstop. Kind of funny when you think about it.
Just a simple tweet: casual greeting, link to streaming Rift Apart, arguably the best graphics you can get on PS5 at the moment. Then, the comment section? Absolute chaos from desperate pleas, demands, and hopeful queries asking when the hell Wolverine is coming out. It’s almost like showing up at a party with a bag of chips when everybody was promised pizza. Thanks for the chips, but… where’s the pizza, dude?
Let’s break down the affair. The original tweet went out, and hardly seconds later, the replies started coming in. Yossi Gini set the mood for emotion: “Show up Wolverine, please😢🥺😤😩☹️😭😫😡”. That’s a lot of emojis for just one sentence-one could say! Then ‘SpawnYaard’ politely chimed in: “Hope you drop in to give us some Wolverine info soon, it’s been years 🙂 thanks!” See? Manners. The same sentiment, though. GIVE US THE CLAW MAN.
Some requests actually started getting specific. ‘Danclower94’ said, “Love Ratchet & Clank, but any Wolverine updates?” A fair and balanced approach: Praise for the thing they’re showing you before asking for the thing you really want. Smart. Then ‘wingwolf2023’ goes straight for it. “When is the next Ratchet and clank game.” So even within Ratchet fandom, there’s a want for what’s next.
We started getting good stuff from the replies-to-replies. A user called ‘Culture Crave’ quoted somebody else’s tweet and poured more gasoline on the fire: “New trailer for Insomniac’s ‘Wolverine’ game is reportedly ready to release 🎮. Expected to release before the year ends — likely at PlayStation’s next State of Play.” Well, if true, that’s huge news. That means we might actually get to see something concrete, and soon. The rumor mill is flowing with the utmost speed, and gamers are offensively taking in all of it.
Some comments were direct parking demands. WebbJarred did not mince words: “Drop the suits in, ya bunch of jerks! GIVE US THE SUITS!!!! #SpiderMan2PS5”. He’s talking about the suit controversies from Spider-Man 2, but the energy is exactly the same. Players want more from these developers they love. Then someone else, Real1090jake, just sounded… defeated. “You know what… I’m tired of asking.” Felt that, man. It’s a hell of an endurance test.
Some even went on to voice slight concerns for the Ratchet game. Chicky_nuggiez9 vocalized a somewhat extreme concern that many older fans probably carry to their hearts: “@insomniacgames if you’re giving up on ratchet and clank you atleast have to give us an ending to their story, I get you have big marvel money now but dont forget where you came from”. It’s a legitimate fear, right? Being left out-of-wind for the big Marvel buck. Valid point, even if probably not true.
No language barriers were in sit! User Maniscalaver1 commented in Portuguese: “Solta essa masterpiece chamada Wolverine…”. Which more or less translates to “Release that masterpiece called Wolverine.” Demand is universal, folks!
So what do you take away from all this chaos? Insomniac Games is in quite a unique position. They have this avidly passionate fanbase stemming from classics such as Ratchet & Clank and Spyro, and they have now completely created another fandom through Spider-Man games. And, everybody now looks towards Wolverine. That hype weighs heavy, and the silence is literally killing its fans, here in the reply section.
They did a little sweet, informal thing, setting up a playthrough of a great game. But clearly, this reaction shows that the grail for news about their next big thing is ever-growing and ravenous here. Weight to the rumor of a trailer set to drop at State of Play before the year’s end is what people are clinging to for hope. It’s just the tragic tale of a developer with way too many great irons in the fire. Everybody wants a piece, and they want it now.
The Ratchet stream was most probably fun. But for thousands of gamers: a painful reminder of how much mystery still surrounds the game that they’re really waiting for. The ball is in your court, Insomniac; the people have spoken. They’re ready for some adamantium.
