And one day, quite spontaneously, Insomniac Games decided to drop a tweet with a smackdab-on-Clank-looking-face emoji with green eyes (๐ข_ ๐ข). And what followed was a complete bonanza in the Internet realm!! For every passing minute, the users were going insane; speculating about new Ratchet & Clank games, updates for Wolverine, and even Xbox ports. How crazy can it get-to have just one little robot emoji stir such commotion? Yet, here we are.
Let’s take one by one here: The official Insomniac account had guts and tweeted an image of Clank, looking mysterious, with those incredibly big green eyes-no caption, no hashtags, perfectly naked of any additional information; within minutes the replies were filled with theories and demands. People are demanding Ratchet & Clank for PS5, inquiries about Wolverine updates on the same platform, and demands to have the classics for PlayStation ported out to other platforms. It is the perfect New Year’s gift for speculators.
One user, @rome5309, said, “It’s it coming??!? The only reason I buy a console?!! NEW RATCHET AND CLANK??!!!?” Truly, yeah, mood. The desperation for more lombax adventure is real right here. Then, @XxLuiggixXPR said with utmost respect, “Please release a new Ratchet and Clank game,” and honestly, all want that platforming action returning.
It got some more weird! It was the beginning of some sort of Xbox announcement? Commenting on that, @ZackSny47653302: “Coming to Xbox๐๐๐” seem awfully dissonant coming from a studio now fully owned by Sony. But hey, wishes are free. @Noctiserth followed with, “Xbox when? (๐ข_๐ข),” thus that platform warfare never dies; it just grows stranger.
Then you get the Wolverine bunch. @Anime4entertai1 went, “Our claws are sharpened and Ready for #WolverinePS5 finally!” Like, yeah, we’re all waiting for that game, but this is clearly a Clank tweet, people. @Yann12C tried to tie them in with “Wolverine soon (๐ข_ ๐ข),” but I don’t really see the connection here. Maybe they’re both green? That’s about it.
Even funnier was an exchange between Insomniac and @KnoticalMenace, who posted “Ratchet: ๐ก,” to which Insomniac replied “left the pizza in the oven too long,” such a bizarre inside joke that I feel like I need context for. Then @KnoticalMenace responded, “Oh, well. Better go and get some Cosmic Crust Pizza instead ๐ ,” which is a deep cut Ratchet & Clank reference only real fans would get.
Speaking of deep cuts, @Fluffly_4 weighed in on the old debate: “You were either on team helicopter or Jet Clank back then,” which oh man, takes me back to arguing with friends on which Clank upgrade was better. Good times. @PyroMaker3 went off with “Thruster Pack > Heli Pack ๐,” and honestly… they’re not wrong.
Things get really interesting now: @MrkelsGame commented, “You guys are really about to break the internet with this upcoming official trailer,” implying that something big might actually be coming soon, while @DarthZabrak said, “I cant for later this month to see what you guys have been cooking,” which insinuates that something concrete might be announced before the end of this month. Could this please be a tease for State of Play or something? Somebody looks suspiciously artificial.
And we’ve gone internationalโ@XavierMili commented in Spanish, “Dos ojitos ๐ verdes?? Pronto estarรก para Xbox,” which means “Two little green eyes?? Soon it will be for Xbox,” showing that the Xbox port watering is not an anglo phenomenon. Though again, Sony-owned studio, so probably not.
What really tells is the almost ridiculous number of people pleading for classic PlayStation franchises to return. @BrettBreakerZ blatantly pleads, “Buy the Jak N Daxter and Sly Cooper IP PLEASE!” which tells how much love is still there for those classic platforming series. Meanwhile, @alfranky69420 posts “Classic games on the PS5” with a heart-eyes emoji, representing all of us who want easier access to the classics.
The strange part might be how some people took this for damage control? @Caleb_Beyea replied to someone with “Damage control,” which like… for what? Did something happen that needs controlling? Sometimes a tweet is just a tweet, people.
At the end of the day, that is a cute little nostalgic post, or a real tease. Insomniac’s been working on Wolverine, but they’ll probably throw a surprise Ratchet and Clank announcement at us any day now. The fact they engaged with a few responses suggests it could be more than a random tweet. In any case, it just goes to prove how much love still surrounds this little robot and his lombax friend. Here’s hoping we get some real news soon instead of more green eyes teasing. Until then, let the speculation continue because that’s what gamers do best.
