A tremendous markdown on the PlayStation 5-exclusive game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to which Insomniac Games has announced. The tweet from the official developer account shared the news that the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game is currently offered at a 50% discount on the PlayStation Store and that the deal is valid until January 21. This incredible price drop is especially tempting for those who want to experience the acclaimed dimensional time travel adventure.

Insomniac actually let a deal slip by without any prior intimation, isn’t it? To express it differently, “Be daring and take a stunning walk through multiple parallels.” In another way it means “Come on, our gorgeous PS5 game that is the best way to demonstrate the console is now half-priced, have fun.” And regarding gamers, the responses are… let’s say, they are very loud. The tweet itself bears a quite straightforward meaning: a sale announcement. But the replies! Oh boy, the replies are no less than one huge atmosphere. It is like a weird cocktail of festivity, unfulfillment, and a bit of grief all mixed together in one bustling comment section.

To start with, the loudest proponents are here! The entire hype group, for instance, Gro3_ summing it up succinctly and saying: “this game is already a must-play but at 50% off? it would be insane not to buy it.” And they are absolutely right. Rift Apart was mainly a technology demo for PS5 which also happened to be an outstanding and really fun game. Thus, getting it for half the price is an amazing deal. What’s more, the gaming crowd is just there to express their love, for example, IPD_Gaming is saying, “I truly loved this one,” and Evolution Pixel is really suggesting to the public “Just go for it, it’s an amazing game!” with a hype personality GIF accompanying them. Positivity like this is so delightful.

Next, the evolution of the hype is as if we are moving on very slowly and the mood is changing. It is like the promotional price had opened a door to a past full of memories and now there is a flood of requests. A lot of requests. Instead of concentrating on the sale, the players are more worried about what the next step will be. Or to be more precise, what has not been made available yet. With one player after another pleading with Insomniac for more Ratchet, they are almost implying, “Give us a Ratchet game! Please and Thank you.” like RGAnderson1992. Or monto121 is saying, “Is there any news about the next one? Would like to have one more before the PS6.” This last one surely hit different, didn’t it? The fear that we might have to wait for an entire console generation before we can go on another Lombax adventure.

We are getting close to the point now. A user named Wagner S Lima communicates his inner feelings about the situation in Portuguese which actually reflects the feelings of many: “It is such a pity to see a game with so much potential for DLCs with new worlds and planets become so underrated.” OOF. That’s a direct blow. That comment and the thread it opened are the pulse of the whole conversation. Another user, Ilona 🎮, who was the one saying, “I would love to see a remaster or remake of the old ratchet and clank games,” gives the most common desire. Then MattBanXI comes in, pointing out the financial reality which is more than likely: “I guess their contract with Marvel (and the huge success of Spider-Man and I hope Wolverine) will probably prevent them from making a new Ratchet and Clank game for quite a while.”

So it’s a splendid sale indeed! And the response is quite significant proof that the Ratchet & Clank series is still very much alive and a major player in the gaming world though with just one great PS5 title. It is a dear series and the gamers are apparently anxious that it is being neglected. This is quite clearly depicted in the calls for PC ports, the demands for remakes of the PS2/PS3 titles (you are welcome, eaglechopper and Jack) and even in the case of one guy, Ryan DeCesare, who liked the game but wished it was longer so that he would have a reason to come back. That is rather a compliment wrapped in a criticism, to be honest.

A user going by the name of Skuzz Faced doesn’t miss to jump in with a bit of odd and random homophobia and says that “the new clank is so gay for me that I would rather just play the good ones, thanks.” which is… an opinion. A negative one, but still it is there. The conversation is also happening on other platforms like Xbox.
