This time Insomniac Games has given us, their fans, a chance to share what video games we are currently playing through social media. This might seem like a harmless question, yet the reaction from the gamers was so big that they not only revealed different current favorite games but also indicated quite clearly a strong, continuous request for more content from the likes of Ratchet & Clank, a franchise that has only recently been reserved for future generations to come. Swapping of posts between the developers and the gamers is quite a good sign of the loyalty and excitement of the fanbase.
To put it another way, Insomniac just put this tweet up along with the tiniest “YOOOUUUU…” reminiscent of the classic Ratchet lines, and a very nostalgic-looking photo of the pairing that involved the character and the voice. Besides, they wanted us to share with them what games we were playing. Can you believe it?? Sounds like a simple query and maybe even a fun little community check-in. But the replies… that’s a whole different story. A complete mood, indeed. A beautiful, chaotic, and at the same time, demanding mood.
We’ll start with the fact that everybody is playing basically EVERYTHING. It’s like you are being shown the gaming trend at this very moment. The diversity is such that there are even players who have just come across the Super Mario Bros. remake on their PCs or have just got a Nintendo Switch and are still deciding which game is the best to start with. Talking about current games, the mention of Black Myth: Wukong is obviously unavoidable. Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Cyberpunk 2077… one player even mentioned playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare! That’s a long list and it’s pretty amazing that at the same time various types of games are being played.
But now, here is the point where it turns to the exciting part. Actually, the very exciting one. Among all the “I’m playing this” replies, the direction of the conversation changed almost immediately and a HUGE part of it went back to Insomniac. And not the wrong way though, people didn’t just say “oh I’m replaying Spider-Man 2” (even though that was for sure the case with many). No, the gamers took this as an occasion and ran with it! They started making… requests. Demands, even. Polite but still demands.
The demand for Ratchet & Clank from the fans was beyond doubt the loudest one. It was, literally, everywhere. One player declared that Rift Apart is their “GOAT game to play when stress hits,” to which I must say that I completely agree. Another player is almost done with the PS3 HD collection, and he is on a trophy hunt for a million bolts. After that, it is the transition from “I’m playing this” to “I wish I was playing more of this.” And it gets rather straight-forward with people asking, “When are we getting more Ratchet and Clank games?” One user suggests, “PS5 collection of the old games including the psp game.” Another one quite wistfully expresses, “Would love another R&C games to play.” Then the bold ask: “Can we get some DLC for Rift Apart?” The demand is so unmistakable, and it is not just a faint sound; it is a shout.
But that’s not all! The issue of comparing with other Sony studios came up, which is always an interesting topic. One user very clearly said that even though they are “Definitely not the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games on PS5,” this is the case “because y’all refuse to make them available unlike your sister devs sucker punch/naughty dog with Sly and Jak.” Ouch. That is really a hit right at the very center of the matter. And it instantly created a mini-thread! Another user hopped on that train, posting a gif with “Adopt Jak and Daxter and make a remake like Ratchet and clank please” in reply. The dream of a PlayStation platformer renaissance is indeed still alive among these replies.
Then there are the gamers who are already waiting for Insomniac’s next moves. “I wish I was playing the multiplayer spiderman game,” one user dreams of the future. “Honestly, I wished I were playing Wolverine. Lol but it would be Spiderman 2 otherwise!” was another comment, which on the surface might seem less enthusiastic but still allows for belief in the hype for Wolverine. And then there are the… bold requests. One user cried out, “CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE BUY THE DEAD SPACE SERIES AND CONTINUE GREATNESS ALSO THE INFAMOUS SERIES PLEASE! I can see GREAT GAMES WITH INFAMOUS UNDER YOU GUYS.” What? That’s too much, bro! But the gamers’ interest
