The gaming community is already busy shaping their opinion on the new DLCs for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and The Order of Giants just released by Bethesda. This expansion exposes the secrets of the “nameless crusader” and is ready for downloads. So how is the feedback being received right now? Mixed at best.
Now, what is the DLC really all about? A new chapter in the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle story delves deeper into this so-called nameless champion. Bethesda sent their very cryptic “What do you know about… the nameless crusader?” tweet, followed by the link with which to purchase it. Classic tease, you know.
Now comes the spicy part: people started playing it and sharing mixed opinions! Some of them really love it! HeyJay2000 felt the DLC had really restored their love for the franchise after being somewhat let down by Dial of Destiny. They went on to say it was a great chapter amid Raiders and Last Crusade! In true Indy fan terms, that’s about as high a compliment as one can give:
But then… price talk began. Oh boy, the price! Probably the biggest stick in the wheel. Several gamers are outright complaining about the cost; some felt it was overpriced. JTrxpGaming said, “Great game, bad DLC; ngl it was not worth $35 and should have been free or at least $10.” Ouch. Then Timothy1395 was all fancy: “Pretty good DLC but for its length I feel $10.00 would have been a better price.” Now YoungBoyBool clears the matter up: “It’s actually $20, not $35,” though he confirmed, “That price point is causing some friction.”
Length–or the lack thereof–is another topic that comes up in conversation. Mrstench88 said, “Great but too short sadly,” while thevoiceance_upvoted_mandarepplwent,”good DLC, just sadly too short and truth be told quite a safe story, like you guys took no risks with it.” It seems that the players might like the content but yearn for more at that price tag.
Then there are technical problems: the usual for any new release. Giz2le and McMardiganVCF reported a bug that doesn’t let the player get back to Villa Pia after finishing the DLC; meanwhile, McMardiganVCF also stated the “Roman Scholar” achievement is bugged, with one note missing. These kinds of day-one bugs are quite common, but still plentifully frustrating if you want to enjoy some fresh-side content.
Then comes the whole… complaints that basically have nothing to do with the DLC. Others are trying to grab the Indiana Jones announcement as the perfect buzzword to wax against other game sets. Gabriel80730695 ranted about how the dev team should be working on Fallout 5 instead of Starfield, which… wait what? That’s like telling a pizza place that your burger from another restaurant wasn’t good.
HeyJay2000 had to explain that that is MachineGames (the Wolfenstein developers) not Bethesda Game Studios, so making this DLC has zero impact on Fallout or Elder Scrolls development. But try telling that to angry gamers!
Praise for quality voice acting! Griffonline said, “”I must say the voice actor for this is 100% spot on. I thought it actually was Harrison Ford at first.”” Getting Indy’s voice right is a pretty impressive feat for immersion, and rumors say they nailed it.
And then it’s the “all else bad” part: Adamjames799 found the burning flesh: “The chick character ruined this game so bad just following you around either spoiling everything or repeating what was already said. Shame.” Companion AI has always been tricky in games – sometimes they’re helpful, sometimes they’re annoying, and it sounds like this character falls into the latter category for some players.
And then there is one more number: third-person mode. Several players, including JNJDevils and Goringaverde, are begging for the option to play in third-person. Goringaverde even said, “Bring Third Person mode to this game, We at Xbox and PlayStation want it,” along with several pleading emojis. That first-person versus third-person debate in game discussion will never cease and gets no resolution.
Despite the split reactions, the community seems quite engaged with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Immediate player interaction with this DLC followed by impressions shared of great detail indicates that a player base ready for engagement is eager. Even the criticisms arise from a competent standpoint; if they outright despised the game itself, they wouldn’t even bother discussing DLC.
The Order of Giants DLC is out now for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, offering new story content about this mysterious nameless crusader. Its voice acting received praise, truly Indy-like, but price-to-length ratio, accompanied by some technical nastiness, brings out heavy criticisms. Weighing whether it is worth a twenty-dollar buy depends a lot on how much you love the base game and how much patience you have for potential patching.
For those who have been enjoying Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, this looks like a solid if somewhat brief addition to the adventure. For everyone else… maybe wait for a sale or until they fix those bugs. Either way, it’s nice to see Indy having another adventure, even if it’s not perfect.
