Pre-Production for season two of Netflix’s The Witcher is going to begin soon, as Henry Cavill confirmed as much in a recent Instagram post.
While speaking to his followers, Cavill said: “Hello everybody, I’m back. I have been enjoying my Christmas break, perhaps a little too much at some points, but now it is back to work. Pre-production will be starting very shortly on Witcher season two. I see that you’ve all enjoyed Witcher season one, thank you very much for that, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll be giving you updates on here as time goes on.”

Netflix’s newest fantasy show ended up being the second-most-watched original series on the platform in 2019, even though it was only available for 10 days. Naturally, its success has led people back to the video games, as the player-base for all three drastically increased after the show debuted.
While the video games are super-popular, they’re meant to be sequels to the Andrzej Sapkowski novel series, which has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to the Netflix series, as around 500,000 copies have been reprinted to meet consumer demands.
“Since its release, sales have been phenomenal in all formats — print, ebook and audio — and Orbit’s U.S. division is currently reprinting over 500,000 copies to meet the exceptional demand. We’re aware that the novels might not be available everywhere at this time, but our inventory team and printers are working incredibly hard and all books will be back in stock and flying out of our warehouse very shortly.”
The news of the reprints comes shortly after the news that Amazon sold out of the book series shortly after Netflix released season one of The Witcher. In total, there are eight books in the series, with seven of them being the main story (The Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and The Lady of the Lake), and one of them being a side story (Season of Storms).
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that we’ll see season two of The Witcher this year, as the show won’t begin filming for another few months. As of right now, the current belief is that we’ll see season two of Netflix’s newest fantasy series in either the spring or summer of 2021.
We’ll probably see more updates regarding season two of the series in the coming weeks and months as they begin to cast the new characters who will be appearing in the second season, with the most notable one being Vesemir, who might be played by Mark Hamill.
