You have a One Special Day sale on Steam, and it really is a delightful offer. Hello Games went all out in making a bundle with No Man’s Sky, The Last Campfire, and Joe Danger. Here’s the catch; the proceeds go to housing physically disabled persons. Gaming for such worthy causes—that I must consider my sure-fire formula.
Well, the less said, the better. The gaming community can never be happy, can they? The replies from the selling tweet were an unpleasant mixture of hype and dissatisfaction. This has become the norm nowadays with any itchable news that hits the gaming media.
Let’s break it down. This sale comes under the auspices of One Special Day. Their mission has something to do with creating equity for people with disabilities. So, you go and shoot three amazing games at a good price and do some good deeds along the way. I call that a pretty neat deal, if you ask me. Now, No Man’s Sky has come so far from the old days of pre-release bashing, and it now feels like there’s a hugely exciting universe out there for you to do things in. The Last Campfire is this lovely little puzzle adventure, and Joe Danger is arcade fun—all the way. So, yes, really good bundle.
Then the replies from the Switch gamers are being quite loud about their displeasure here. One user-theflashback02-is emphatically asking about the Voyagers update somehow on the Switch. Cross-save with their PS5 can’t be used because of it, which is like, a damn shame. Just imagine having all your progress stuck on one platform and not being able to continue on the other: That’s gotta be frustrating as hell.
Then der_tron stated, “You can’t duck Switch 2 players forever, Sean, where’s Voyagers?” Okay, two things actually: first off, Switch 2 isn’t even out yet, but I get the frustration. It would seem that Switch players are feeling the pangs of being left out, and that’s a raw feeling. Especially when other platforms are getting all the love.
There are some pretty positive ones, too, though. coley_tc is out here saying Hello Games is amazing for giving us free expeditions basically as DLC and now doing the charity bundle. JDX_Ad_Astra is stating that they are proud of Hello Games, and that’s pretty much high praise in the gaming world, wherein developers almost always get dragged through the mud.
Then one has to talk about Joe Danger. MohdHazimi didn’t even know that No Man’s Sky and Joe Danger were made by the same developer until he watched Internet Historian. Hell, I didn’t know either. It’s crazy to think that the studio that made this giant space sim also made this weird little motorcycle game. But it does show the range of Hello Games, which is pretty neat.
Inevitably, one will mention Light No Fire, Hello Games’ upcoming fantasy game. Despite fantasy not usually being his thing, JDX_Ad_Astra is planning to pick that up day one. That’s the kind of loyalty Hello Games has been able to cultivate over the years, especially with how they’ve turned No Man’s Sky around.
The not-satisfied remain amibotherd says he gave up on playing with too many bugs. Which could be a dealbreaker for some. It is a shame because the game has improved so much, but if it is not running smoothly for you, it is hard to enjoy.
And then there’s the whole debate about Nintendo. GGigantelope is out here trashing the Switch, saying no one’s gotten it since Pokémon or Mario Kart came out. But come on, the Switch has a massive library of excellent games. But I guess when you’re desperately waiting for an update that’s taking forever, it’s easy to cave in to frustration.
So all in all, this sale is the perfect chance to support a worthy cause and pick up some stunning games, but not without highlighting the awkwardness of platform parity, especially for Switch players who are still awaiting updates. Given how beautifully Hello Games executed No Man’s Sky, it looks like a little work remains to be done to make everyone satisfied.
So if you’re over on Steam, definitely check out the bundle: for a good cause, and you get three great games. But if you’re on Switch, maybe hold tight and hope that Voyagers update comes really soon. Because waiting sucks; especially when everyone else is having fun.
Maybe this sale could help fund some of those updates, who knows? Either way, it’s cool to see a developer giving back to the community in such a direct way. So props to Hello Games for that. Now, if only they could get everyone on the same page…”But,” in the meantime, happy gaming, and hopefully, the Switch crew gets that love soon.
