To mark the 3rd anniversary of God of War Ragnarök, one brilliant idea by Sony Santa Monica was to let players share their beloved Photo Mode pictures with the classic trio of Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir. The studio also mentioned that they would be reposting the best entries during the day, which immediately became a reason for the loyal God of War community to react and a large part of the mentioned community to participate.
What a surprise it has been to learn that it has been three years already since the so-called God’s End of War? One might think the fans were only going mad about that ending the other day. However, these days the players are still very much addicted to the Photo Mode of the game and they can even be called obsessed with it. To give a more detailed account of the obsession, the replies to the original tweet started to trickle in almost the same moment as the tweet was posted.
One user named Pizza Operator said, “I had way too many to choose from… the photo mode of God of War is really amazing!” which seems pretty much to say what most people feel, to tell the truth. The Photo Mode in such games is a top-notch one allowing you to capture the best moments with the tough dad Kratos, the growing son Atreus, and the talking head Mimir who provides all the comic relief.
It is indeed amazing how strong the emotional bond between the players and the game is still. The user carvngs stated the game had become their “all-time favorite” and they confirmed with “no other game has brought such a range of feelings in me as this one.” They are not alone, Alif just said it is one of their top 3 games EVER. Such compliments imply high appreciation considering the innumerable games released in a year.
But the road to the past is not only lined with memories and good times. Some gamers took the opportunity to ask about new stuff. For gamers are always gamers. User rudpjm rather bluntly asked, “Do you know what we want? A NEW GAME” which, in fact, is rather a reasonable demand. Concurrently, some others were indicating their wish for remasters of the old God of War games or for Kratos to come back to Fortnite. The requests for the Fortnite crossover were indeed very frequent among the replies, with many users tagging the developer regarding the return of the God of War character skin.
There were even some critiques included in the mix – one user named criticalgamer0 was very… vocal about his judgments concerning the characters, calling Kratos “horrible” and complaining about “too much filler dialog from Mimir.” But what can I say, you cannot make everybody happy?? Nonetheless, the large majority of the comments were simply expressing love for the game and characters.
The submission above is a great example of the unbelievable creativity shown by the players in the Photo Mode pictures. People were sharing these perfectly taken snaps of the main characters in various locations of the Nine Realms, some during quiet moments on the boat while others in the middle of the action. User GamesVisuals even went as far as the first game in the remake series by posting a picture of the first steps on the journey of Kratos and Atreus together. That really shows how emotional it is.
It is pretty cool actually that players’ different interpretations of the “trio” concept were so varied. Some players were strictly choosing Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir, others, for instance, Sachein93, were suggesting different triads that included characters like the turtle Chaurli and the boar Hildisvíni. And _als_dk created fantastic fan art not only showing the main trio but even extending to include Freya, Brok, and Sindri.
The time for this celebration could not be better, Paul Gale Network told that the 9th of November is now virtually a day in the gaming history dedicated to God of War Ragnarök. Three years later, the game is still a topic of discussion, the screenshots keep coming, and the demand for new content is still loud. This is the mark of a truly influential game whose impact lasted long after the credits rolled.
The communication between Sony Santa Monica and their fans through events like this is nothing short of genius. By inviting gamers to showcase their Photo Mode works, the company not only creates an enormous amount of user-generated content but also ensures that the game is still part of the conversation. And let’s face it – who doesn’t like to show off their great gaming screenshots, especially when they are from a visually amazing perfection like Ragnarök?
The response to this simple anniversary tweet has proved that the reality is that God of War Ragnarök is a game with a long lifespan. Because even after three years players continue to feel emotionally connected to the game, they still present wonderful in-game pictures, and even more importantly, they remain very much looking forward to new content.
