Rumors that Sony is going to officially reveal the PlayStation 5 next month are beginning to heat up, as it seems likely that the next-gen console will finally be shown off in February.
On Thursday, David Jaffe — who is the creator of Twisted Metal and God of War — dumped fuel on the fire, saying that the PlayStation 5 reveal is less than four weeks away.
“PlayStation 5 reveal is less than four weeks away. Sony knows hardcore gamers are hanging on every scrap of info and know that just cause Microsoft dominates the conversation at the moment, that’s an easy thing to change when they are ready to reveal (assuming the reveal is good).”
Following the above statement, God of War’s creator tweeted the following, saying that the February PlayStation 5 reveal event is the worst kept secret in the gaming industry right now. You can check out his tweet below.
Even though he left Sony in 2007, Jaffe still has close with people in the company, so his information is likely accurate. Also, he started a development studio after leaving the company, which has released games for the PlayStation 4, with the most recent one — Drawn to Death — releasing on the platform back in 2017.
Of course, Jaffe didn’t reveal who his sources were at Sony, so this could just be an educated guess, although it seems more likely that someone within the company shared the PlayStation 5 reveal date with him.
Earlier this week, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 5 won’t be at this year’s E3 event, as the company is planning to skip the annual convention for the second year in a row. Following the announcement, the company started an event called “Experience PlayStation,” which started on January 14, and it’ll run through February 16. It’s a New York-based event which is meant to celebrate 25 years of PlayStation.
Since announcing the event, most began to predict that the PlayStation 5 will be revealed on the final day of the “Experience PlayStation” event, which is less than four weeks away.
Back in December, Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series X, which is also scheduled to be released this holiday season. So, it’s likely that Sony doesn’t want to wait too much longer before showing off the PS5.
While the leaks haven’t been confirmed, photos of the PlayStation 5 have been out there for the last several months. So, if the official reveal event is scheduled for next month, we’ll finally be able to see whether or not the photos were fake.
