Madden NFL Twitter account jumped on the hype train by posting about Malik Nabers’ insane touchdown grab from Week 2, calling it their moment of the week. And guess what? It really is. In the clip, the rookie wideout from the Gigantic lands what might possibly be the most ridiculous reception ever and looks as if he could be walking into an actual video-game… which he technically is now.
That was sick in real life, though! That’s Russell Wilson behind a perfect deep ball with Nabers going up and grabbing it as if it were nothing. The timing, the extension, and the concentration… everything about it was a highlight reel, and now EA Sports is going to immortalize it in the video game as one of those Clutch moments, which is pretty cool for the rookie.
The comments are where the interesting stuff starts. Fans of any sort from gamers to football lovers flooded the comments section with all sorts of possible reactions. Some were raw hype with one overly excited player expressing, “LETS FKN GOOOOOOO” with a million fire emojis. Another one was just simply, “That was amazing,” which I guess is fair.
Then we get the classic Madden complaints. One user said, “showed how unnatural the game looks”, and well, we all have those moments when those animations kind of get a bit… weird. Another one replied to some issues with the Superstar mode, “U guys fixed it where we can now see the season stats in superstar, but took away the yearly awards tab?? Y’all pissing me off on so many levels.” That’s that very specific kind of frustration that comes from hours and days that go into a game.
Several are already looking forward, such as the one who says, “Nabers is going to be a beast for a while in New York.” And then the next guy really gets the ball rolling on some serious questions: “Does this mean he gets a higher overall?” Because in Madden, that’s what really matters, right? Stats before everything.
A cease-and-desist joke came through the mix. One says, “To be completely fair that was a very clutch moment, sadly the giants defensive coordinator wanted to play the DBs 20 yards off when the needed 15 yards. Hence letting that moment go to waste.” Ouch. There’s bang on football knowledge for you.
Then, of course, there is the simply appreciating: “What a throw,” “crazy td catch,” “Nice catch let’s goooo,” and my personal favorite just “Epic buddy 🔥.” Sometimes you don’t really have to say anything when the play speaks for itself.
You want to see some legitgrounds-interrupted-in-the-game types of football. This has been going on these past few weeks through Madden’s “moment of the week” and is a nice way of blending the real sport with its virtual counterpart. For players who also watch football, it’s like a little sighting Easter egg every week.
What makes this all the more exciting is that a rookie is responsible for such a splash. New guys debuting in the league and instantly making plays in the game? That has to be good for Nabers. And for Giants fans who’ve been starving for offensive sparks, this has got to be something to see.
For years, Madden has been all about encapsulating those big NFL moments, and that’s what Nabers’ catch is all about. Whether it’s games-direction or sundays-viewing, these moments are really what make football fun to follow. And now, you can probably try and re-enact it by yourself in Madden, which is all the more fun.
So yeah, Week 2’s moment goes to Malik Nabers and that insane TD catch. Definitely worth looking into if you haven’t seen the clip yet. Whether a Giants fan, a PlayStation or Xbox player, or someone who appreciates a great sports highlight, this one is a keeper.
